Oceanus Origins

The Man From France

Months had gone by. Johnny and myself… well… we were no more. It was more of an adrenaline fling and a few nights in the bedroom then he told me he had to leave to save other people and we finished it amicably. I had tried to move on, Johnny was my first and he treated my like a real woman, looked after me and was a bit too protective at times but that’s what I suspected from a man like him. Being created by the devil. Though as I sat in my bedroom staring at my reflection in the mirror I wondered if I would ever find a man who could love me for who I am. Who could truly care about me and make me feel like a million pounds.

Myself and Courtney were going to go out into Stafford town shopping, my mother and father let Courtney stay here while I tried to sort out paper work to try and get her adopted as my daughter as Courtney had taken a real shine to me and never left my side since. She was like a daughter and I cared about her like she was. Courtney walked into my bedroom as I smiled at her and stood up,
“I’m ready.” Courtney spoke,
“Right, let’s go then.” I grinned and she taken my hand as we left the house saying goodbye to my mum as we got into my little Pegout car and we headed to the retail park not far from where we lived in Milford. Driving down the road we listened to the radio and we sung along to some songs together as Courtney was the happiest I had seen her for a while.

We pulled up at the retail park and got out of the car, though Courtney soon went quiet as I held her hand and she moved nearer to me. Her green skin was still showing and she hadn’t been out the house as much as some people were afraid of her. I looked to Courtney and sat down on the wall not far from my car as I pulled Courtney to face me,
“Look at me.” I spoke; this was really the first time Courtney had gone out like this. “You are a special young woman, if people stare its because they don’t understand what they see. And when people don’t understand anything they are afraid. Some people might point and stare but its bound to happen. The majority of people in Stafford point and stare at me because I’m their local celeb. The hero of the people. So if you are with me, you will be fine. Okay?” I smiled, Courtney looked at me and nodded as she hugged me and I stood up.

It was coming close to Christmas now and I was going to buy Courtney some Christmas presents, we were also going to go to Paris for the weekend on Friday courtesy of Rosemarie. Rosie wanted to get Courtney to travel the world and hopefully make her grow in confidence. Rosie was also developing a machine that would hide Courtney’s skin colour so she could go out and be happy with her appearance.

As we walked around the shops together talking about Christmas and what we were going to do with the family I had noticed other people looking at Courtney and people were pointing at her. Though amazingly, Courtney didn’t seem to notice as I smiled and held her hand.

We got served by assistants like nothing was wrong, most likely because I was there with Courtney looking after her, making sure she was happy. Though as we sat in the coffee shop by the window a few lads walked by and saw Courtney, they immediately come up to the window and looked at her. Pointing and staring Courtney ignored them as I looked at her and taken a sip of my coffee as she was happily eating her mince pie.
“I don’t like it when people like them stare at me.” Courtney spoke,
“They are just stupid immature boys who are just trying to make fun because they find it enjoyable to hurt others.” I explained as Courtney nodded and taken a sip of her hot chocolate as the lads were getting bored as we didn’t pay attention to their antics.
“It still hurts…” Courtney spoke as I placed my cup down,
“I know… When I first come forward to the nation with my powers they didn’t know how to take it. A lot of people hated me but the more good things I did for them the more they came to love me and appreciate me and my kind.” I explained as I sat back. I glanced at the boys as they looked at me and started making rude gestures, “Excuse me.” I flagged down an assistant who was cleaning the table, “Could you please remove the men outside our window please or I shall do it myself.” I spoke,
“They are not on our property so we cannot do anything I’m afraid.” The lady spoke and apologized, I sighed and stood up, moments later water could be seen leaking under the doors and around the front of the shop as I walked out and looked at the boys.

They turned to look at me as one of them smirked,
“Couldn’t resist our charm could you love? How about you sit on this but before that get rid of that green ugly kid.” The lad spoke,
“That young special woman in there is more of an adult then you men, she has ignored you this entire time when she could easily kill you with her abilities, but I have brought her up better then that and she knows better. Please leave before I have to show you how I feel.” I spoke,
“I can definitely make you feel something special sexy.” One of the other lads bantered as I sighed,
“Fine…” I spoke and water quickly wrapped around all of their bodies as they yelled out in fright.

“Do you boys know who I am?” I asked as they shook their heads and I sighed, “My name is Oceanus, the hero of the people and protector to the weak. I have saved this country countless times and you approach me and my company today and disrespect us. You have no idea who you are making smart remarks at and you best stop now.” I glared at them all, “It doesn’t make you ‘hard’ and it doesn’t make you respectable at all.” I looked between the four lads. “When you four hang out, are you three racist to him. No because you are friends.” I pointed to the black lad they had with them, “Just because she wears a different colour skin because she is a mutant doesn’t give you the right to be racist to her. She is a normal human being like yourself with feelings and emotions and just wants to live her life like the rest of us but cannot because of her differences. Because she is judged by those around her because they fear what they see. Now I hope you decide to apologize as soon as I let you go and I hope you learn to never do this again. Because the majority of people who have your abuse might not be as understanding as myself. Okay?” I explained, the four lads nodded as I evaporated the water and they soon went walking inside to Courtney and I followed them and listened to them apologize to her as she smiled and said it was okay.

The lads looked at me and then apologized again as they left. Courtney walked over to me moments later as she picked up the shopping bags as well,
“Thank you, you didn’t need to but…” Courtney stopped as I chuckled,
“I know… just ignorant boys like that need to learn before they get themselves killed by another mutant who wouldn’t handle it as well as I did.” I explained as we headed back to the car and drove back home.

Reaching home we carried the bags in and packed them away as I looked to my mum and sat down on the sofa with her,
“How was shopping?” Pam asked,
“Okay… Courtney has grown up a lot over the last few months, a lot of people were staring but she just brushed it off like it was nothing…” I spoke, my mum smiled as she nodded,
“That’s good.” She replied as Courtney came down stairs and sat between us.

Today had been a good day, it was as normal as it could get and I had never felt so relaxed in a long time as I closed my eyes and sat back on the sofa. Though as I had relaxed, something had happened that was going to make our house… a little more crowded…

A man landed on the floor in front of us screaming. He had quickly jumped up and looked at us as I jumped up ready to protect them as well. He pointed a cane towards me as he was wearing old fashioned clothing. Looked to be 18th Century clothing as he looked at me.

“Qui êtes-vous? Où suis-je? Quel est cet endroit?” He spoke in French as my mother stood up and stood besides me,
“Nous n'allons pas vous faire de mal. Vous êtes en Angleterre, où venez-vous?” My mother new French from her travels to Paris for many years as the man looked to my mother as he seemed to slightly relax. Though he soon collapsed on the floor as he dropped his cane, “Erm… what to do?” I asked,
“Take him to the spare room.” My mother spoke as I looked at him,
“Are you joking? He’s bloody tall and buff looking he’s going to weigh a tone!” I spoke, my mother looked at me as I sighed and then tried to pick him up as Courtney grabbed his legs and I shook my head as she was going to try and help me.

After taking ten minutes dragging him upstairs and putting him on the bed we took off the majority of his clothes and my mother brought over some water and a drink for him when he woke up,
“I’ll look after him till he wakes up, stay around… just in case.” My mother spoke as I nodded.

Pacing outside the room Courtney was looking at the guys cane as I stopped when she pulled it apart,
“Cool!” Courtney spoke as there was a sword hiding in the cane,
“Put it back, don’t touch things that aren’t yours.” I spoke and stepped next to her as she looked at the blade, “Courtney.” I spoke as she looked at me and sighed,
“Fine…” Courtney sulked and put the blade back as I looked to the door, “Your mum will be fine, if she is your mum she is strong.” Courtney spoke as I nodded and smiled,
“I know she will be.” I smiled as the door opened and my mum stepped out and I walked over to her, “Well?” I asked as she looked up at me.

“He knows more English then I realized. But he is from the 18th Century… I told him what year it was and he passed out again.” My mum spoke as I sighed,
“Did you get any other information?” I asked,
“His name is Lionel Proulx, he isn’t that much older then you. I think he might be a mutant.” Pamela explained as I taken a breath and then leaned on the banister and folded my arms,
“I don’t think he can control his time travel, this must have been the first time he had time traveled because he looked to scared and confused when he got up…” I spoke as my mother nodded and we looked at each other, “What about Dad?” I asked,
“He will just have to accept our new guest until we can figure out what we need to do with Lionel, we can’t exactly kick him out. He’d be lost and confused in this world…” my mother explained as I nodded,
“I’ll help him.” I spoke, as my mother looked at me,
“Nonsense. I can speak French, leave him to me.” My mother explained as I looked at her and sighed,
“Are you sure?” I asked,
“I wouldn’t have volunteered else.” My mother smirked as I nodded and Courtney looked between us.

* * *

Hours passed and my mother and Lionel had been talking in the spare room for a very long time, I couldn’t understand a word they were saying as I listened through the door like a teenager. I thought about Lionel… he had long wavy blonde hair and bright blue eyes when I looked at him. He looked like a rich man from the past so he must be well educated as he was very smartly dressed.

I moved away from the door and into my room as I sat on the chair looking at my reflection. My dad was away with the lads for a week so it was a good thing we had the house to ourselves for a while else he would have gone mad seeing Lionel drop in like that. I closed my eyes and taken a deep breath as I heard my door open, I looked around and saw Lionel in a white shirt and ¾ length black trousers as he walked in with his hair down. The majority of women would have passed out. I mean… he was good looking and had that charming look about him as he walked over to me and knelt down besides my chair. Lionel taken my hand as I looked at him.

“I… am sorry for what happened here… your mother… a kind woman has told me I can stay here, and that you would help me understand my condition. Your mother… teach me complete English. So we can talk better.” Lionel spoke as I nodded,
“I know my mother is the best. I will help you with what I can.” I spoke as Lionel smiled at me,
“You are kind and beautiful, just like your mother. Merci.” Lionel spoke as I smiled.

Lionel was a kind and gentle man, he became good friends with my mother and Courtney liked him as well… that night we had all sat around the table together eating our food and Lionel loved my mothers cooking as he kept saying how delicious it was compared to the food he used to have even though he was from a wealthy family. Lionel told us stories about his life as well, he was very open and honest about it since he was appreciative about us helping him. He told us about his family and how they were all very rich and well off. He said the last thing he remembered before time traveling was almost dying in the French Revolution because of the poor taking on the rich and he almost had his head chopped off. Lionel believed his future wife was killed too which made him suddenly quiet as he looked at the food.

“Could you please take me to where my home should be now? In your time?” Lionel asked, as he looked between myself and my mother,
“My friend can arrange for us to go to Paris. Plane would be quicker.” I spoke to my mum as she nodded.

Notes

Because I hadn't uploaded for such a long time I decided to write and upload the next chapter. It's probably not as good as I hoped thinking about it right now but once I complete the story I'm going to go through it again and edit what needs to be edited...
