Oceanus Origins

Hate

Over the last 8 days I had learnt some new things about myself. I could change the temperature of water, move it into different shapes – though I could only control about a liter of water – I could also control if I turned into a mermaid or not now. That was my main focus. Other then that I have been learning quickly, but that is mainly because I have been working my ass off learning about what I could possibly do. With the power over water my father thinks I could do anything I want with it. Control the oceans, rivers, maybe even the moisture in the air.

To be honest, I’m scared… I mean literally scared. I don’t want anyone else other then my family and my best friend to know about my powers. If the world knew then my family would be branded badly and that's the last thing I want.

Right now I was watching my best friend arch, she was fantastic. A real athlete and a real friend. I smiled gently as I watched her pull the bow back; a small sigh was released as her small lips parted slightly. The arrow was released as it flew through the air and hit the centre of the target. We were at an indoor training arena in the middle of nowhere. But we were close to Stafford because Rosemarie had the money to travel now. She had a good weekend job as a secretary.

“You are always so good at everything.” I smirked it was true. Rosemarie was a black belt, a master in Judo, she also knew the fighting style Snake, and she was very skilled at trampoline. This girl could be an Olympian. But she refuses to do it. Instead she uses her very smart mind to put forward towards the science in medics.

“Well, I recently masters the fighting style Snake and you know I’ve been arching since I was six.” Rosemarie smirked at me, “How have you been anyway? You looked a bit worried when I saw you first.” Rosemarie added, on the inside my inner self smirked and folded her arms. Of course I was worried, I am a mutant and have no idea how to tell Rosemarie.

“Yeah… I’m fine.” I spoke as Rosemarie took another arrow and aimed once again, it was clear she wasn’t happy with the reply. I sighed gently, may as well lead her up to it. “Have you heard about all the mutants appearing in America? It’s scary isn’t it?” I asked, trying to see if Rosemarie was scared of the idea of people with powers. Rosemarie just shrugged as she relaxed and pointed the bow and arrow down to the ground.

“I think it’s so cool. I mean, people with powers, I bet there might be someone with healing powers who can cure cancer and many other medical problems in the world. If that happens then we’ll be able to take some part of their mutant gene and use it in other medical supplies and make the world a better place.” Rosemarie smiled at me; she really did seem to be excited about this whole mutant thing.

Honestly, it makes me feel so much better. I smiled brightly; there was nobody else in the area as I stepped forward towards Rosemarie. She was looking at me with suspicion in her eyes and her lips twisted and pursed. It was her normal face when she was suspicious of someone. It always made me laugh. I did smile as I looked over her face and then taken a deep breathe. This was it.

“I a Mu...” The words rolled off my tongue too quickly as Rosemarie to catch. She frowned at me in confused. “I’m… a Mutan…” I spoke again trying to stay quiet at the same time. Rosemarie frowned at me and I grabbed her shoulders. “A Mutant!” I yelled at her.

Rosemarie’s jaw dropped as she looked into my eyes, her bright sky blue orbs were staring into my emerald green ones. She was stunned clearly, I have never seen Rosemarie so confused and shocked at the same time. It wasn’t every day someone learned that their best friend was a mutant though.

“Cool.” Rosemarie finally spoke. I let her go and stepped back, it was my turn to be shocked.

“I tell you a very big secret and all you can say is… cool? What the hell?” I spoke almost yelling with the pitch of my voice getting higher.

“Well what else can I say?!” Rosemarie looked at me, our bodies faced each other now; our stances were mirrored. We were both standing like we were ready to fight. Rosemarie was the first to stand straight as she held onto her bow and arrow. “When did you find out?” Rosemarie asked.

I stood up straight as well and sighed, “eight days ago.” I answered. Rosemarie pulled me to a bench at the back of a room and we both sat down and leaned back against the wall. “I wanted to tell you. But I would have preferred to do it in person. I hope you understand.” I added and looked to my hands, they had entwined and my thumbs were tapping together with a small slow beat. Waiting for Rosemarie to understand how I feel.

“I can understand if you are scared… with how most of the world is acting. Fearing and hating mutants. They are the future and they are something that we should be proud of, because they are the same as us. The people make the power, not the other way around…” Rosemarie explained as I looked up at her, Rosemarie’s face was serious. She could be pretty deep when she needed to be.

“I am scared, please don’t tell anyone else.” I spoke, Rosemarie nodded and put her hand on my shoulder and pulled me into a hug. Rosemarie was my best friend. She was the one person I could talk to other then my parents about anything I felt I couldn't with them… that was how special this woman was to me. Rosemarie was like a real sister to me.

“So… what can you do?” Rosemarie whispered quietly as we pulled back from the embrace. I looked up at her and then smiled at her, obviously she’d want to know that. Hopefully she would be able to help me develop my powers and maybe come up with some easy ways on training my abilities further.

“I… can turn into a mermaid and manipulate water to my will. Though I can’t control much at the moment. Only like a liter of water at the most…” I explained, Rosemarie looked shocked and then looked down at my legs. She grabbed my ankle suddenly and lifted it in the air causing me to fall on the floor and bang my head.

Great… here comes overly curious and investigative Rosemarie. “How does that work then? I wonder what triggers all this? I wonder if you can do more then what you just said… I wonder if there’s a limit to what you can do? Maybe you can split the ocean like the Red Sea!” Rosemarie looked at me as I lay star shaped on the floor with my right ankle in her hand as she looked at my skin.

“Yeah… I wonder what else…” I spoke with a dull boring tone. Rosemarie was acting like a little child at the moment; it was like she was playing with a new toy. And I’m not a toy. I hope she doesn’t think about conducting research on me when she gets older. Unless it was an idea that we both come up with and it was incredibly safe.

Though after a while Rosemarie and myself said our goodbyes and we left the practice grounds. Rosemarie told me to call her if I ever needed anything. I knew that offer was open way before Rosemarie even knew about this.

* * * That Night * * *

I lay in bed and thought about everything that had happened today. I told Rosemarie about my powers and shown my abilities, and she accepted me. My mother and father were happy, though my sister Raven… she seemed more distant.

I closed my eyes and relaxed as I wanted to fall asleep, my body wouldn’t let me. I couldn’t sleep. Though as I heard a squeak in my room in the pitch-black night I wondered what was there.

“Mum? Raven? Dad?” I spoke and tried to see through the darkness. Though it was difficult. But before I could react I felt a sudden pressure on my face. Someone was pushing a pillow over my face. I panicked! I threw my arms in the air and tried to push the person away. Though I grabbed their hair. It was pretty long; the pillow muffled a female voice.

I didn’t want to believe that it was my mum or my sister!

I taken the last breath I could and yelled out as loud as I could so anybody could hear me. I trashed my arms about and knocked all my ornaments off the bedside table. Though as soon as that happened, the pillow was released and the person ran. I quickly sat up throwing the pillow to the floor and chocked.

My mother and father started yelling and calling for my sister and me. It all happened so fast. I looked at my mother as she asked me if I was okay. I couldn't reply. My father ran back in saying my sister had ran out the door and taken off in her car. I looked to the pillow on the floor as that was what covered my face twenty seconds ago.

My sister tried to kill me…

I couldn’t breathe, move or talk. My body went numb. I couldn’t feel my mother wrap her arms around my body as she held me close to her comforting me.

Raven… my sister; she hates me so much to the point of wanting to kill me.

Because I’m a mutant.
