Oceanus Origins

For Better or For Worse

* * * 18 Years Old * * *

Over the years I had learned much, that there were more mutants like myself in the world. Rosemarie had met a few more people like myself, though they weren’t too fond on exposing their identity, so she kept them close and they trusted her. Some of them had apparently moved to America for some school for mutants… this is what Rosemarie told me anyway.

I couldn't be happier that Rosemarie was able to uncover a crime boss as the C.E.O of the company that she now owns. Rosemarie was a very smart and brilliant woman. She was now the owner of her own medical company. At eighteen! So obviously she had enough money to take us on holiday. We both learned that my ancestors originally come from Ireland. So we decided to go to Dublin for a week. It was a lovely city and since we were old enough we were more or less legless every night. And tonight was no exception.

We had found a small club that we loved and we decided to at least go there every night. Every night we had fun, we were only half way through the holiday as well.

Though as we stood at the bar with the bartender's and waitresses running around busy, we waited patiently to be served. Rosemarie was wearing a dark blue dress, which was very tight and very revealing. I was wearing a stony dress that wasn't very revealing but reached my knees. The shoes were flat with a small floral pattern.

The club was very loud and colourful. It was hard to find a place like this in such a city. But it was like your average club. Flashing lights and girls that were basically wearing nothing on the dance floor. I didn't mind it. But I wouldn't degrade myself to that level and show off my body. I have big busts as it is. Don't need to show them off as it is.

I noticed quite a way from us a group of girls kept looking at us and pulling vile expressions towards us. Talk about aggro... We were just standing waiting for a drink.

"Hello girls. Looking for a dance?" A tall slender man had walked over to us with out me realizing. Though it was obvious that Rosemarie had been checking him out. The man looked very tall. I was tall for my age but he was about 6' 3" at least. His black hair reached his shoulders, he had dark blue eyes and he seemed to be well attired in a black trousers and shirt.

"I could do with a partner." Rosemarie smirked as she more or less pounced on the poor man by placing her hands on his chest and slowly pushed them up to his shoulders. Rosemarie was a flirt, hands down. I wasn't really interested in getting into a relationship. I had to worry about what the guy would think of my powers. Rosemarie didn't have that worry.

I frowned slightly and sighed as the guy pulled her away. There was something different about him. I couldn't understand what it was. I leaned against the bar with my arms folded and a frown on my face. I just couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with this situation...

"You know he has a girlfriend, right?" A blonde haired skimpy dressed girl walked over to me. I looked her up and down and tried hard not to tell her to mind her own business. Rosemarie is my best friend she is not me. If they were going to tell anyone tell her not me.

"Its not my problem. Plus if he's in a relationship his partner should dump him on obvious terms that he can't be trusted." I spoke finishing with a smile making my point known. Though the guy walked back with Rosemarie and glared at the girl.

"What is up Precious?" Rosemarie asked, she looked between the girl and myself noticing my aggressive stance and glare at the girl.

"Jane, go away. And tell Maria that we aren't together any more. We broke up 2 months ago. Stop bothering my friends. Come on Precious." The man grabbed my hand and pulled Rosemarie and myself out of the club. He shoved his hands in his pockets afterwards and just glared at the floor as we stood outside in the cold.
"Sorry about that woman... She was on about my ex and my ex is very much obsessed with me. I don't know why? I'm a freak." The man spoke, I frowned I was a freak... I could turn into mermaid and control water for Christ sake! I'm the freak out of the group.

"Franklin. My beat friend is probably more of a freak then you." Rosemarie joked I looked at her as I put my hands on my hips with a surprised and aggravated expression. Rosemarie noticed and backed down. Franklin looked to me as he looked over my face. Though as I looked back at him I could tell he was hiding something.

"You aren't like other people are you?" I spoke. I had seen this expression of worry, anxiety, fear, and curiosity before. The last time I saw it was when I found out about my powers. "You are different and can do something no other man can do. Correct?" I stepped forward squaring up with the taller man.

Franklin just stared at me; I think he knew what I was getting at as his body slowly melted into the shadows as I looked to Rosemarie. Her eyes were wide and her jaw could have broken on the pavement for how quickly and wide it had opened. As I looked behind her though I saw Franklin reappear behind her. He was definitely like me. A mutant, someone who is afraid to show his or her powers, like myself.
"You obviously have you're own powers. How else would you be able to tell about me?" Franklin asked, I nodded and Rosemarie shook her head.

"Rosemarie is my best friend and has kept my secret. I am like you. But don't have the same power. I can manipulate the water and turn into a mermaid when my legs make contact with water." I explained, Franklin looked at me; he was obviously sceptical about it. But I soon made my point when I made a puddle swirl around his body and then moved the water into a nearby drain. Franklin looked to me and smirked, he seemed happy that he wasn't the only one of his kind. "What else can you do?" I asked as I looked over him face. Franklin's expression soon changed again as he glared at me with the same sceptical expression.

"I can move through the shadows and manipulate them to my will." Franklin answered as I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked back at a black figure, which had the same stance and figure of Franklin. He could create his own image in a solidified shadow. It was amazing. "I can only use my powers when I'm standing in a shadow... If I'm out of one then its no use." Franklin explained - this was understandable. All powers have restrictions and that was his. Mine... I'm more powerful at some times rather then others. Rosemarie was still looking into that theory.

I looked at Franklin, “How about we go somewhere more in doors and hidden from public view? Don’t want the world to know about you two right?” Rosemarie suggested. We had to agree, standing in the middle of the street even though it was midnight was a bad idea as someone could see us using our powers. So we all left the street and decided to head back to the hotel, Franklin was quiet along the way as he kept his hands in his pockets. The one thing that started to tick on my mind was; why had he told us about his powers? Was there an alternative reason? Nobody is usually so open in such a short time.

When we finally got into the hotel room Franklin looked out the windows and closed the curtains as Rosemarie jumped on our bed, she kicked her heels off and lay down relaxing in the soft material that covered our bed. But I looked at Franklin, standing in the corridor by the bathroom door.
“Why did you tell us about your powers? How have you trusted us so easily?” I asked, its hard to trust people when you have powers so I don’t understand why he told us so easily.

“I… Maria is a mutant too… but… she doesn’t use her powers with respect. I need your help to get her off my back… please. I know you are Rosemarie… C.E.O. of Winter Corp and I know you are very intelligent and will be able to help me get Maria behind bars without us getting revealed as mutants.” Franklin looked to Rosemarie,
“And you being a mutant just makes the situation even better.” Franklin looked towards myself and smirked,
“What so you just want help getting your girlfriend off your back?” Rosemarie pouted and sat up folding her arms,
“No… She... Maria is working for a gang in our city, she has the power to control people she touches and makes them do whatever she wants. I know this because she used her own powers on me and made me rob a bank…” Franklin explained, I frowned and looked to Rosemarie as she glanced at me. We could see Franklin regretted his actions even if he couldn’t control himself about robbing the bank. I closed my eyes and rubbed my temples,
“So… you need help to defeat this woman?” Rosemarie asked,
“Yes…” Franklin nodded as he looked between us both. We never expected to be approached by someone to help in a fight. I never expected it… but Rosemarie stood up and looked at Franklin,
“We will investigate with you… but we will not use powers. We can do this without powers…” Rosemarie explained and looked between us both, “The last thing we want is an accident or someone getting hurt by you two using your abilities to stop someone escape.” Rosemarie added as I nodded. I understood those comments and I have never used my powers against another human being before, good or bad…

But that was about to change… For better or for worse… we will find out.
