Oceanus Origins

What's your name?

Today was the day… I just knew it. The bank was going to be robbed today… we had learnt from Franklin that they were going to steal from the average Barclays bank. To say I was nervous was an understatement… I had been hanging around outside the bank and had popped in a few times to the toilet and then to the card machine to pull out some money and then sat in the corner with a notepad and pen trying to work out money and stuff for the month at home with the parents. I looked up as Rosemarie walked in the bank and moved to sit next to me. The bank was busy today, which was bad news but I had to get myself ready to go and ready to help these people.

The counters were bustling and the assistants were running around helping customers. I sat there and tried to do a head count. To make sure I knew who was in the room and where they could be when the attack was made. I had to protect these people and Rosemarie. Rosemarie could see my eyes darting around the room, watching everyone; I could see her watching me in the corner of my eye.

“Calm down, you’ll just make yourself look suspicious.” Rosemarie spoke as I sighed,
“I just want to make sure I have everything ready…” I replied, nerves were taking over me again as I sat on the chair and gripped onto the biro pen in my hand so hard that it snapped like a toothpick. Rosemarie put her hand on mine and I looked at her. Rosemarie had made this easier for me, earlier in the day she had come in and installed a device that was going to flood the drains and sinks in the bathrooms and release a lot of water so I could use it to help fight against the people who were going to come and raid the bank. We both sat by the bathroom and I was prepared… I just needed that spur of confidence… something to kick my ass into gear.

Though as I looked to the door a group of men walked in, dressed normally. Some were carrying big bags. The most noticeable feature was their balaclavas. They were here to rob the bank this was it. I stood up as well as Rosemarie as we looked at the men. It all seemed to happen in slow motion. We watched them walk forward; their steps seem to echo throughout the marble room. I saw the first man pull out a gun while two of the men stood by the doors to stop anybody from running out. The gun was fired loudly and everyone in the building screamed apart from Rosemarie and myself as I dragged her to the floor.

Everybody else jumped to the floor as well not wanting to get hurt while a few did run out the building who were by the door already.
“Nobody move or cause a fuss and we will get along without any worries.” The first man spoke, his voice was definitely Irish. A very strong accent was showing… that was the first piece of evidence that I could note. The rest of the men walked around the building and started bringing everyone together in the center. “Don’t you dare press that panic button missy else I’ll pop one in the brain.” The man spoke as one of the goons lifted Rosemarie up and another man dragged me to my feet and grabbed my hair pulling my head back sharply as he peaked down my top.

I stood on his foot in annoyance and he smacked me across my face, the force of the attack knocked me to the ground face first as he laughed,
“She’s a feisty one.” The goon laughed as the ‘leader’ walked over to me and lifted my head up by my hair. I winced as I looked up at him, he had brown eyes they weren’t too big but they looked possessed like it wasn’t really him in control.
“Behave, else there will be issues.” The man spoke; I could smell a faint aroma of cinnamon in the air with an added extra of coffee.

I quickly looked around the room and counted all the men, there were ten. Two by the door, the leader, five were in the room watching me and the rest of the group while the other two must have been trying to get into the vaults behind the counters.
“Look at me.” The man spoke as I looked at him, “You look like a woman with a plan, and if you plan to escape you will be shot in a second.” He added, I smirked,
“Escape wasn’t what I had in mind.” I replied, the man pulled me to my feet, being a whole two heads higher then me he lifted me by my hair off the ground as I grabbed his hand I closed my eyes wincing horribly in pain.
“You plan to take us all on? Pathetic.” The man smirked.

Moments later, London’s finest police officers and a SWAT team were outside the building calling for the leader to come out and negotiate. The leader dropped me on the floor as I grabbed my hair in relief. I now loathe my hair for being so long…

I turned to face the leader of the group, being the only person other then the thieves standing my hands balled into a fist as I glared at him,
“Oi… you Irish leprechaun.” I taunted, the goon next to me put his gun to my head. I felt the cold metal of the gun at my temple as I felt my body shaking with nerves and adrenaline. This was it. I had to protect these people and stop them from committing this crime. “It’s was a bad idea to steal from this bank today.” I spoke. The leader turned and looked at me, I could see a cocky smirk showing underneath the balaclava.
“Do tell me little wench… why is that?” He looked at me,
“You’ve got a mutant to deal with.” I replied boldly, hearing a few of the normal people gasp in horror.

Water slowly moved across the ground but it was quick to grab the man next to me and push his arm up so his bullet just missed my head by inches as he fired quickly wanting to kill me. I turned and the water pushed him backwards into the wall, the people outside could see what was going on inside as there were fireproof glass panels from the ground to the roof. I quickly turned and grabbed the two men by the door with water at their feet, banging their bodies together rendering them useless I dropped them to the ground and quickly moved to the men surrounding the group of people. They had picked up several people from the group and pointed guns at their heads; I saw a young girl was being held by one of them. She didn’t looked scared though… she looked confident like she knew she was going to be saved. I looked at the guy at the front who had Rosemarie.

“Threaten me, you get a punch. Threaten my friends and family, you get seriously injured.” I spoke as water quickly jumped from the ground and surrounded the guns and broken them apart with such force I had to quickly create a water barrier around each one to stop them from hurting any of the people in the center. Lifting my hand up I created an ice barrier around the group of people and pushed the goons away from them. “Stay inside it will be safer.” I called as the people huddled together away from the edge. The ice was 2 feet thick so the goons had no chance in getting to them as I started to take them out one by one.

The two in the back come out with their bags at the last minute as I pulled their guns from them and once again banged their heads together. Though the last person left was the leader as he just stood there, he looked to be having a fit as his left shoulder kept jolting about. I frowned in confusion, was he being controlled? Were the rest of them being controlled as well? I stepped forward, the gun was pulled on me and as I stood in front of him the gun was pushed under my chin.

“All I have to do is pull the trigger… but… no… I… please don’t!” the man yelled, I knew he was being controlled by Maria now, I could see it… he was scared. I placed my hand on his gently and I controlled his hand and stopped it from moving, the human body is composed of 70% water.
“It’s okay… you can fight it.” I spoke; I pulled the balaclava off his head and looked in his eyes closely. “I’m going to knock you out. It should release her control. I will see to it that you are proven innocent. I know who she is that is controlling you. And I will stop her.” I explained, I could see slight relief but also anger in his eyes. Maria knew I was on to her and the man was happy that I knew it wasn’t him. “I’m sorry… this is going to hurt. Please don’t sue me.” I smirked, a shot of water jumped up and hit his head harshly and the man fell to the ground with a loud thump.

As he fell I saw the bank doors get kicked down and the SWAT team moved in. I lifted my hands quickly and the ice melted and evaporated in a second as the rest of the people sat on the floor. The SWAT team walked right past me and towards the rest of the group, though a few of the team stood behind them with their guns pointed at me.

“Why are you aiming your guns at her? She saved us!” Rosemarie yelled,
“Yeah… she saved us… stopped those bad men.” The little girl yelled, some of the people behind me started clapping, I don’t know who started it (most likely Rosemarie). But people outside started clapping too… some police officers come in and them the commissioner walked in. I put my hands down as he walked over to me and started wagging his finger in my face, I prepared for the lecture and put my happy (bored) face on.

“You could have put these innocent lives in danger! You could have gotten a lot of people killed today because of your reckless actions mutant.” The Commissioner yelled,
“Commissioner Bernard.” Rosemarie smiled as she walked over, “I assumed you’ll understand that mine and Precious’ plan to stop this bank was conducted after we found some information out in Dublin on our holiday that this was going to happen today. You’ll find my agent in Dublin has all the evidence to put a woman called Maria Julio away for a very long time. She like Precious here is a mutant but uses her powers against the weak rather then for. Precious has dedicated her life to protect me as my bodyguard and to protect the people of England from any danger or threat such as.” Rosemarie spoke proudly as Commissioner Bernard looked to her, the old man looked like he didn’t want to argue with Rosemarie so he just looked at me and shook my hand and put on a fake smile. Though I knew he was pissed off at me and had a massive hate for getting in the way of his job.

As Rosemarie and myself walked outside there were loads of reporters and camera’s flashing as we walked past the officers and towards an ambulance as they wanted to check that we were all okay one at a time.

“Miss. Winter’s, what happened in there?” A reporter yelled, Rosemarie smiled at the ambulance doctor and nodded in thanks after looking over her,
“It was a bank robbery that was stopped by my best friend and bodyguard.” Rosemarie explained,
“But your bodyguard is a mutant? Why a mutant?” another reporter called,
“Most people fear mutants because of their powers, yes they are strong and they could easily dominate us. But its not the power that makes the person, it's the person that makes the power. My friend here uses her powers to help people and protect those who are being bullied and are too weak to stand up for themselves. My friend has helped me through a lot, not just because of her powers, but because of who she is. I’ve known this woman since I was five and not once has she ever wanted to physically hurt a person. All she wants to do is to prove that to the mutant haters that not all of them are bad people.” Rosemarie explained,
“What is your name?” a reporter called out to me,
“Her name… is Oceanus.” Rosemarie looked at me and smirked, I just gave her a playful glare.

Soon people started chanting Oceanus throughout the street after hearing that on the news in the café’s.

One thing is definitely true… my life is never going to be the same again.
