The Fallen Prince

The First Visit

“Have you come to gawk at me? To watch as one would watch a captured animal?” The scorn in his voice echoed through the hallway, yet he kept his perfect unmoving smile. I looked at the guards and saw they were opening an entrance for me to join him in the cell. Couches and chairs furnished the white room. In the middle of it all was a small beautifully carved round wooden table. Its legs shined with the gold lay that matched the two golden chairs that were set by it.

“Miss,” One of the guards nodded at the small capsule they opened. “You will step in here and we will close the door, when that is closed another will open into the cell. If you feel endangered, tell us immediately, and we will get you out.” I nodded and swallowed hard. I carefully stepped into the capsule. A dim blue light shown through the top, giving the capsule an eerie effect as the door closed. The door behind me opened and I was greeted with a rush of cool air. I involuntarily shivered at it.

“I do often have that effect on people.” A quiet voice came from behind me. Loki had moved to the table and sat down. He seemed agitated, and he was only pretending he was fine.

“I’m Tara.” I said with as much confidence as I could muster. He raised his eyebrows like he didn’t care.

“You never answered my question.” He began tapping his fingers on the table.

“No, I’m here to visit.” I said with a slight hesitation.

“Visit?” He laughed cruelly. “Right. Did you come on a dare? To tell your friends that you survived the traitor of Asgard? You writing a story, and need a good monster? Huh? Is that it?” He was no longer joking. He was angry, and when I look back on it, I don’t think he was angry with me.

“N-no!” Was all I could get out.

“What then?” He yelled loudly, he quickly stood up and flipped the small table. It made a loud crash and I gasped, but I didn’t dare move. I saw the guards rushing towards the capsule from the corner of my eye.

“I thought you needed a friend!” I raised my voice in frustration. He stopped for a moment, clearly thrown off.

“Friend?” He smiled mockingly. The door to the capsule opened again and the guards started rushing in, but I shooed them away. They left hesitantly, clearly unsure of my decision. Loki grinned at that, and began walking closer to me. I didn’t move, I stood my ground, I was determined to not let him scare me.

“Oh yes, friends will do me good, I’m sure!” He whispered, and I took a sharp breath at the cold that surrounded me when he drew nearer. Taking a look at me, he frowned again and began walking slowly through the cell.

“Who sent you?” He asked quietly.

“No one.” My voice dared him to question me. He gave me a side glance, but continued walking.

“So, you truly want to be,” He paused and dramatically placed a hand on his chest, “my friend?” He laughed at the thought; he seemed to really enjoy it.

“What a lovely sentiment.” He sat down in his chair again.

“I seem to think so.” I replied as I walked over to him. Gently, I lifted the table; it was much heavier than I thought. I paused for a moment realizing what that meant in terms of the strange man’s strength. I sat down across from him and looked into his eyes. They were bright green, although I could have sworn they were a piercing blue only moments ago.

“So my friend doesn’t even believe in friendship? Very strange indeed…”

“I never said I was your friend.” He grinned and sat back. He was wearing a loose green shirt. It, along with his loose green pants, seemed very well kept. He was in dire need of a haircut, but even I had to admit that his long black hair suit him quite well. He had grown much from when I first saw him. In fact he couldn’t have been more than twelve at the time.

When my mother first received her job as a cook, I would wait outside in the courtyard until she came out, that is where I met and befriended Sinim. One particularly warm summer evening, I was sitting in the courtyard with my bare feet in the cool fountain. I always loved to read, and I had one of my favorite books, Asgardian History.
There were hedges on two sides of the courtyard, and through the corner of my eye I saw one of them rustle. Suddenly there was a loud crash.

“Loki! Loki!” A desperate voice called behind me. I turned and saw a boy around my age. He had medium length blonde hair and was wearing a blue garb.

“Loki, you know this is not fair!” He whined as he circled the courtyard. Suddenly there was another rustle in the large tree that spread above the fountain. I looked up and saw a boy with jet black hair and a purple garb, probably Loki. He smiled and put a finger over his mouth, signaling me to be quiet. I smiled back and went back to my book.

He didn’t remember me. He couldn’t remember me.

“Am I really that interesting?” He smirked, sitting back up. I noticed as he sat up that he cringed in pain.

“I’ll go now.” I stood up quickly. I desperately need to process what just happened. I knocked on the glass and the capsule began to open.

“You will come back? Friend?” Again with the mocking.

“Perhaps.” Was all I answered with, not looking back. As the door closed behind me, I heard him chuckle.

“I know you will.”
