Loki lay with his eyes closed, underneath a tree. Snowflakes fell around him and dotted his black hair but he did not care about the cold. He cared about the pain he could feel in his stomach as a race he did not know took his child from him. He knew he had to hide this child from Asgard. His heart raced and his eyes slowly opened as he heard the pathetic crying coming from him. The people helping him; one red in color, one was a Midgardian, Loki could tell no more; refused to let him sit up. He sighed in pain and closed his eyes once again.

~~~~~
Time passed before they allowed Loki to sit up. His eyes flickered open to the blanketed bundle opposite him. He could sense it was not like him and his breathing hitched as tears began to fall down his cheeks. What would his Father say? He shakily dragged himself to his child and rested a hand on the blanket. He drew it back to be presented by a horse's head. His eyes closed and he murmured to himself, reaching down to lift his son. Checking him over, he counted. Eight legs. The child opened his eyes and made a tiny whinnying sound. Tears fell down quicker as Loki gripped a tighter hold of the blanket, pressing a kiss to his son's muzzle.
"I'll keep you safe, Sleipnir... I promise..."
~~~~~

It had been weeks since Loki had found himself in the snow, unable to move due to his child. He watched his son trot around the grove Loki had hidden them in. He sat with his back against a tree, eyes occasionally flicking over a few pages over a Midgardian novel. He eventually placed the book aside and sat, alert, just watching his son canter around. He jumped up with a start when he fell, unable to get back up. Loki gently helped his son up and wrapped his arms around his neck, rubbing down his back.

"There there Sleipnir... I've got you..."

~~~~~
Loki watched Sleipnir trot up to him and he gently stroked his son's muzzle.
"You've grown so quickly."
He sighed softly as he whinnied, nuzzling Loki's cheek. Loki would return to Asgard soon and he would have to leave his child behind. He could feel his heart break at the mere thought. Sleipnir would awake to find his Mother gone, abandoned, alone. Loki gasped for air as tears ran down his face. Sleipnir simply moved closer to Loki, allowing his Mother to wrap his arms around him and sob into his neck.
~~~~~

Loki watched his brother and sister-in-law walk around the gardens. His heart panged as he watched them life their children in their arms. His mind roamed to the grove, of Sleipnir, alone. It was no good, he had to return to his child. He stood and discreetly left for his chambers, packing clothes. Would he return? The answer, he did not know. He had only been away from his child for a mere month and he was an emotional mess. He took one look back at Asgard before leaving, possibly for good,

~~~~~
Loki stared in at the empty stables, his breath hitching. Had something happened to his son? He slowly walked to the tree where he had sat watching Sleipnir grow. The book, The Fault in Our Stars, was still there. Loki slowly lay down and closed his eyes, fingers curled in the grass. He could not sense Sleipnir, the feeling that something had happened to his son was more overwhelming than ever. His eyes slowly closed and tears welled up. He sobbed out his son's name and gripped at whatever he could. A tongue lapped at the liquid flowing down his cheeks and he slowly opened his eyes. His son stood over him, nuzzling his Mother, obviously worried. Loki's arms wrapped around his neck and he smiled, sobbing from relief.
"I missed you..."
"Loki... Who is this marvelous beast?"
Loki started at his brother's voice and turned to what surely would end badly for his son...
