King of Brooklyn

Prologue

James Barnes? Yea, he has a reputation among the girls of Brooklyn. He’s loyal to his best friend, flirtatious among the various girls he comes in contact with and he’s got a smile to die for. From the beauty salons to the girls at the ice cream parlors, he’s the topic of discussion. The girls will giggle and blush at even the sound of his name. He leaves girls a mess and doesn’t care the reputation he gets. The only thing he really seems to care about is his best friend, Steve Rogers. But that never stopped girls falling in love with Bucky.

Frances Dallas? Yea, I’ve got a reputation too. Since I moved to New York at the tender age of 18, I’ve been singing at various clubs from Brooklyn to the Hamptons. I’m known from my seductive stage presence and my sultry vocal styling. Any club I sing in gets packed for the night, almost immediately. There are lines of men, married or single, fighting to get a spot front row. It’s flattering, really it is. The attention I get is amazing from the flowers to the various unwanted marriage proposals that get those men in trouble with their wives or girlfriends. But none of that mattered, I may flirt with them but I’d never sleep with them; especially since most of them are known to have their eyes glazed over from bourbon. This earned me various nicknames ranging from Heartbreaker to Ice Queen.

Bucky knew my reputation on stage and the men that seemed to worshiped the ground I walked on. He knew all of that before walking into Paradise Island, the club I was singing at at the time. He knew everything the public knew about me. Yet, he still came, he still tried to get my attention.

He saw me as a challenge. I saw him as another annoyance.
