Saving the World and Possibly Myself

Chapter 3

Ch. 3 video
I didn't stay in my room for long. I was wide awake and bored out of my mind. My headphones were M.I.A. and I didn't feel like being cooped up in this friggin closet anymore. True, I'd spent days riding in the backseat of my brother's car or driving for days on end in my own car, but I didn't want to be in close quarters right now. Grabbing a gun and a few knives, I hid them on my person before leaving the room. Glancing at myself in the mirror, I smoothed down my hair a bit and straightened my shirt. It couldn't hurt my chances of getting along with everyone on this plane if I looked decent. I took a moment longer to really look at myself. I couldn't remember the last time I really took a good look at myself. My hair was a somewhere in between a dirty blonde and a medium brown depending on the light. My eyes were a hazel color that reminded me so much of my brother, Sam. We basically had the same color eyed, which we got from our dad. John's eyes were a bit darker, but close enough to where people knew we were related. My other brother, Dean, had these amazing emerald green eyes that look like they belong to some Disney princess. I was insanely jealous. But everything about me seemed to an intermediate of my brothers. Dean's hair was lighter than mine and mine was lighter than Sam's. My eyes had more green than Sam's but were more hazel than Dean's. And don't even get me started on height. I was tall for a woman, but short compared to both my brothers and my father. They were all six foot something while I was about five-eleven. Even my personality was a mix of both my brother's. I liked classic rock like Dean but also enjoyed more current music like Sam. I was rebellious like Sam but also a good little soldier like Dean. I always did what John told me to do, I just usually did the stuff he told me not to do as well.
God damn. I was on memory lane, wasn't I? Letting out a huff, I straightened my AC/DC shirt one more time before walking out of the room and bumping right into Ward. Great.
"Sorry. Didn't see you there." I apologized, deciding to be the bigger person. He shrugged.
"It's fine," He said, obviously going along with my 'let's be civil' plan. "Actually, I was on my way to let you know that Coulson wanted to talk to you. Did Skye show you where his office is?"
"Yep. I'll head there now." Ward walked away and I headed to see AC. Being polite for once in my life, I knocked before entering the room.
"Come in," Coulson called out to me. I entered the office. It was a nice size and well-decorated considering it was on a damn plane.
"What's up, AC? Hey, ya think Skye'll mind me stealing her nickname?" He chuckled and shook his head.
"No, I don't think she'll mind at all." He gestured for me to sit in a chair across from him.
"So, what's up, Coulson?" I asked, sitting in the chair.
"Well, to be honest, we're still figuring out what exactly to do with you." I raised my eyebrows at him. "What I mean is, you are the first person we've recruited to be a part of a secondary Avengers Initiative. We don't have much set up at this point and I'm not sure we want to just throw you in with the Avengers. Don't get me wrong, we know you have a lot of skills and are very good at what you do. But we have to make sure you can handle Avenger situations. Plus, the Avengers are a difficult group of people to work with," He added with a chuckle. "Trust me, I've dealt with all of them. They make a room full of toddlers look cooperative." I laughed with Coulson. "So, I think what we would like to do is keep you with my team for a while. Bring you on a few of our missions, see how you do and then throw you into the big league. How does that sound?"
"Well, I'm already here. Might as well." I shrugged, not really caring if I wasn't an Avenger right away. I knew that wasn't the plan when I accepted Fury and Coulson's offer. "So, AC. When do I start?" He smiled, reminding me of a caring father.
"As soon as the Bus lands in about 6 hours. We're heading to Ireland now. I'll explain why we're going there before we land." I nodded and stood, figuring we were done talking.
"Alright. I guess I'll try to get some sleep before then." He stood and walked with me to the door.
"Good, you'll need it. And Hunter," He began as I opened the door, about to leave the office. "Welcome to S.H.I.E.L.D." I grinned like a madman leaving the office.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I only slept for a few hours. That's all I could even sleep. Plus, I hate flying. That was something Dean and I shared. I wasn't quite as bad as he was, but it still freaked me out. The Bus wasn't bad considering how nice it was, but if I saw a window or felt turbulence, I grabbed onto whatever was closest and hummed one of my favorite songs. This is what happened at about three in the afternoon when I was walking through the seating area of the plane. We hit some turbulence and I instantly grabbed onto the closest chair, which happened to have Ward sitting in it. He jumped a bit before grabbing my arm and making sure I was steady, which I very much appreciated. I stood clutching the chair with Ward holding my arm for a moment after the turbulence was over just to make sure it was safe again. Skye was laughing her ass off while Jemma and Fitz stared at me, trying to figure out what the hell was happening. I stood straight again and Ward let go of my arm. I forgot about going to the kitchen to get some food and sat in a chair in between Ward and Skye. We were very close to landing and I could not fucking wait.
"Dammit. I hate planes." I muttered, making Ward grin and Skye continue laughing. Fitz-Simmons finally figured out what was going on and chuckled.
"Why did you agree to this if you're afraid to fly?" Jemma asked.
"Hey! I'm not afraid of flying. I'm afraid of crashing and dying a horrible death." Wait, I've probably already done the second part. Oh, well. "And I didn't know I would be in a plane when I said yes. Why do you think I drive everywhere?"
"Just try to relax," Skye suggested.
"Just try to shut up," I muttered. I then began humming AC/DC. It seemed to be my music for the day.
"Are you humming AC/DC?" Ward asked.
"It calms me down. God, this has gotten worse since that stupid oceanic flight," I said, muttering under my breath once again. However, with everyone so close, they still heard me.
"What? What happened then?" Skye asked.
"Long story short, demon possessed people on a plane and made it go down. Then it went after the survivors and made them die in plane crashes. My brothers and I had to go on a flight to exorcise the demon before it could bring the plane down. We cut it pretty close too."
"Oh, gosh. That must have been awful," Jemma spoke in her soft voice.
"Yeah, not quite the word I would use."
"Eh, I wouldn't worry about it too much. May is probably the best pilot S.H.I.E.L.D. has. We're not going to crash. Besides, we won't be in the air much longer. Speaking of, when is Coulson going-" Ward was cut off by Coulson himself.
"Mission briefing," He said, not bothering to stop and going straight to the stairs.
"Well..." Ward began. "That was good timing." And he stood to follow AC. I did the same, as did Fitz-Simmons and Skye.
This mission seemed simple enough. There was some stolen alien tech at a facility near the outskirts of a little town here in Ireland. I honestly had no idea where we were. It should be a pretty simple mission. Get in, get the tech and detain whoever was in the facility, get out, and interrogate the detainees. Although, it seemed to be the simple missions that got really complicated really quickly. Coulson was about finished when he turned to Fitz-Simmons.
"If you two get teach Hunter how to use an Icer before we land, that'll be all." The two scientist agreed.
"Woah, what the hell is an Icer?" I asked. Coulson just nodded towards Fitz-Simmons and everyone else left.
"Oh, an Icer is a weapon I developed. It incapacitates those shot with it," Fitz informed me.
"It's an upgraded version of our night-night gun," Simmons added.
"Okay. How do they work?" I figured I'd get it over with and get them to teach me.
"Oh, it's like a basic gun, but..." And with that, Fitz-Simmons went off on teaching me. It wasn't hard, just the weight was a little different. I would use this gun for the most part to keep as many people as we could alive. More people breathing were more people to get answers from. I would still have a regular gun on me, just in case it was needed. I was actually excited to go on this mission. I just really hoped I didn't do anything too stupid.

Oh, almost forgot to say that the picture for the first chapter is Hunter, except she's a little bit older and I envision her with longer and slightly darker hair, but this pic was close enough
