It Starts with a Spark
Chapter 12
Chapter 12
We decide on a whim, to go out, for a (super-hero) night on the town. Given the emotionally charged day we had, we decided that a nice night taking down bad guys would hopefully help.
At first it wasn’t a big deal, Peter was really just showing off, while I stood around freezing my ass off.
That’s when it happened.
BOOM!
The ground shook, buildings rattled. Someone had attacked Central Park.
At first I was stunned. Shocked. There hadn’t been an attack on New York since, well since Loki had brought over his alien army. That was months ago.
BOOM!
Another explosion. Was this a terrorist? Or a super-villain? Which was worse?
Peter swooped down, grabbing me and swinging off.
You’re never in the right place at the right time, so that was why it took us a sad ten minutes to get to Central Park, being in the other side of New York. There had been three more explosions.
How many dead bodies? How many lives?
When we finally reached the site, it was debating. It smelled like fireworks and burnt hair. The air thick with smoke and debris. The park was ablaze, the huge Christmas tree alight with flames. Hundreds of people poured out, screams piercing the night.
Peter was going into the park.
“I have to make sure everyone is out of there.” He had said as he sat me down and took off.
It was worse on the ground. I could feel their fear, pouring over me in waves, drowning me with their screams of anguish and pain. The calling out for names, the look of worry when there wasn’t a reply. The screams of the burn victims. Of their pain. It was enough to send someone into shock. To traumatize them forever. I wanted to close my eyes. To walk away. I wasn’t needed here. What could someone like me even do to help? I couldn’t help. I couldn’t fly people out of here, or control water or something. I was just a teenage hit-man, who was trying to play super-hero. I didn’t have any powers, what could I do? Tell them it’s okay? I wasn’t even as helpful as a firefighter. I couldn’t run into the flames and pull people out. I was useless.
That’s when someone floated out of the crowd, key word here floated.
“Hello New York! I hope you all are ready to evolve.”
Well this just got fun.
Really? What's your wattpad?
