The House in the Field

Ma'am

“Rodgers we’ve located him.” The soft voice of one of the agents rang out in the Captain’s ear. “Coordinates are in the system; the jet is set to autopilot.” The smooth voice of the female again rang out as the leader of the team looked around the jet of people.
“You sure you want to do this Cap? He’s a killer.” The closest thing Captain had to a best friend asked him.
“He’s my best friend Sam.” Steve spoke sadly looking over at him as the calm ex solider just nodded, a reassuring hand resting on the muscular shoulder belonging to the suited up Captain.
“Ok so we what we gonna do? I’m guessing walking in there shouting his name ain’t gonna cut it.” Sam asked as he and Steve took their seats at the cockpit.
“I’m gonna make him remember, think you can buy me some time?” He asked looking down at the radar to see they were under 45 seconds from the drop point, he almost missed Falcon nod.
“Sir 3 armed hostiles and one unknown are in the building with Mr Barnes.” The computerised voice rang out just as the jet stilled.
“Ready?” Sam asked his best friend as the Red, White and Blue suited man nodded, heading for the back of the jet and jumping.

In a mere few minutes both members of the unofficial rescue mission had gained access into the building, the three armed hostiles nowhere in sight so they were quickly scoping out the area for the unknown person. They had just reached the basement of the old office block when muttering could be heard, the two men looked at each other quickly identifying the closed door that was muffling the words and nodding. Standing on either side of it, faint screaming could be heard as the Captain gave a silent countdown from three before busting the door open. The guys weren’t sure what they were expecting, but it certainly wasn’t the scene in front of them. There stood the guy they had been hunting down for so long, the reason for so many missions in their spare time, was stood in front of them hands gripping his head; pulling at his long hair as his face twisted in pain. Kneeling down in front of him was a youngish girl with long black wavy hair, jeans and boots covering her body and a gun and knife tucked into the back of her pants and in her boot.
“Ma’am are you ok?” The Captain asked as she span around revealing her pale complexion to the two soldiers.
“Everything’s fine. Leave.” Her quick and sharp answer came out as both of the guys sideway glanced at each other. “Listen to me. Focus on my voice.” She carried on either ignoring the superheroes presence or genuinely thinking that they left. “Follow my voice James, come back James.” She spoke in a softer manner as she slowly stood as if not to alert him, his gaze never broke from hers as his hands fell from his head. “Talk to me James.” She encouraged stepping slightly closer to the metal armed man.
“They’ve come for me.” He whispered as she shook her head.
“No one’s going to get you. You just need to stay with me ok?” She looked up at him, a sort of pleading look covering her face.
“I know him.” Spoke the assassin. The three words the Captain had been waiting to hear for so long had finally been spoken causing the broken best friend to look up at him.
“Bucky.” Steve started to speak, stepping closer to the two strangers in front of him. However, he must have moved too quick because the HYDRA agent grabbed the girl in front of him, metal arm against her neck as she coughed out from the pressure on her windpipe. Sam quickly tensed up ready to take out the one known as the Winter Solider if need be.
“Who the hell is Bucky?” Spat out the assassin, holding the girl tighter to him as he backed up towards the window, each step he took so did the Captain. The girl’s feet moved quickly to keep up the pace to relieve the pressure on her windpipe.
“Stop!” Shouted the girl holding her hands up to Captain who immediately froze.
“James listen to me please.” She whispered her hands remaining in front of her so he could see them. “Follow my voice. Come on, come back to me. We can get you back just follow my voice.” She cooed glaring over at the two intruders, the metal arm dropping as a sob filled the room.
“Stay away from me.” He shouted pushing the girl forward, who fell down from the unexpected shove. She was unable to get up quick enough to stop the Winter Solider from escaping through the window.
“No!” She shouted rushing over to the window to see his shape already fading. She was so close to getting him until these two turned up.
“Ma’am let’s get you checked out?” Captain America asked, holding his hand out to her once she had turned away from the window.
Scoffing she shoved the innocent gesture away from her as she glared at the both. “You have no idea how long that has taken me and within 30 seconds you blew it!” She shouted at them, shaking her head she walked towards the door. “Stay away from him. You might think you’re helping but you’re not.” She warned the two heroes, not caring about who they were or their reputation.
“I’m afraid he’s a wanted man miss, we can’t do that.” Sam spoke as she reached the door. She opened her mouth about to speak, snapping it shut instantly and grabbing one the of the metal pipes; smacking one of the gun wielding hostiles across the head with a hard blow seconds after he entered the room.

“Who do you think she is? She’s not on SHIELD’s database.” The voices rang out as the girl opened her eyes quickly shutting them tighter than ever from the intrusive light. “Steve.” Someone spoke out noticing that the mystery girl had awoken. The girl instantly felt three presences at the side of her as she opened her eyes again, blinking until she got used to the light. She rubbed a hand down her face, feeling the oxygen mask covering her mouth and nose and rolling her eyes whilst she tugged it off, remembering what had happened before she was knocked out. She was too busy thinking of a new plan to get James back that she forgot about the three pairs of eyes that were watching her intently until there was a soft polite cough. Her head snapping to the side of her; she glared at the two guys who had caused her to lose the Winter Solider, throwing a glare at the female stood with them for added measure.
“How you feeling? You hit your head pretty hard on the floor.” The Captain took the lead, a genuine concerned look gracing his handsome features, as she scoffed.
“Swell. Look I don’t know where I am, but, I need to leave. Now.” She told them, sitting up and swinging her legs off the opposite side of the bed, wires tugging from her arm as she pulled them out; the heart machine instantly flat-lining.
“Ma’am just calm down. Let’s get one of the doctors to check you over, please.” He pleaded as she just stared at him with a blank expression. Sitting back down slowly on the bed the Captain tried not to smile at the small victory.
