The House in the Field

Punch Me

“Hail Hydra.” The black haired guy heard from behind him. He was sat sideways on his chair watching the fooled public having a good time in celebration of the Avengers. He spun round quickly to see the young girl holding two fingers up to the barman signalling she wanted drinks.
“You don’t fool me I know you’re with them.” He whispered as he fiddled with the trigger in his pocket.
“Then I’m a better actress than I thought.” She smiled, turning her head to the left to look him over. “You think I want to be here with them? I spent my whole relationship before the war being second best to Steve Rodgers. You’d think after nearly dying to protect him it would be easier but it’s not.” She spat out shaking her head. “You’d think ripping your heart out so the great Captain America didn’t die would be enough to earn me a little attention from the guy who is supposed to be my husband. I should have let him die. I should have ripped his heart out and squeezed and squeezed until there was nothing left.” Her fists clenching and her knuckles were pure white as she thought about the guy who was holding her back from happiness. The HYDRA agent watching her unfold at the side of him with a small smirk.
“You’re celebrating the Avengers with them? I saw you all pose for the photographs.” He commented sipping his drink.
“I needed the girl. I knew you was here I just didn’t know where. She doesn’t go anywhere without Sam.” She rolled her eyes. “They know you’re here, but, I can help you.” She smiled looking at him.
“What do you get out of it?” He asked, his eyebrow raised.
“Captain America dead. Preferably me being the one to do but you know I’m not greedy, just dead.” She told him, her eyes trained on his never once looking away.
“What do I get out of it?” He asked moving closer to her. She could talk the talk but he needed to test her further.
“Captain America dead?” She laughed, “You’ve seen what I can do. You tell me which ones you want I’ll get them.” She smirked as she turned to look at the scattered members of her team then back to him.
“I want the Winter Soldier. Dead.” He whispered in her ear, he was so close she felt his lips dragging along the lobe of her ear.
“Done.” She looked at him with a smirk and no hesitation. “How do I know that bomb in your pocket isn’t going to go off?” She searched his face for a plan.
“I guess you’re just going to have to trust me Asset.” He told her with a smirk as she grabbed his hand.
“We need to leave.” She spoke quickly standing up and pulling him in the direction of the doors where two guards stood either side of.
“No one is allowed past this point except Mr Stark.” The bigger looking one informed them, in one quick motion of Ava’s hand the guard was opening the door allowing them to exit.

“Secluded corridor, I do hope you wasn’t trying to bluff me before Mrs Barnes.” He told her with a bored tone. “Because that won’t work out.” He shook his head.
“No asshole they were on their way over.” She glared at him before heading further down the corridor him following her slowly.
“So where are we going then?” He asked, looking at the door that she broke the lock on.
“Stay here. I’m going to go get Barnes and Rodgers. I figured you’d want to be here when it happened, and even I can’t keep all the security of us and kill two super soldiers.” She told him quickly. “So stay here.” She walked slamming the door and heading back to the party.
“Did he hurt you?” Bucky asked once he saw her come back through the door.
“No I’m fine.” She smiled at his concern. “Now is the time though hot shot.” She whispered in his ear, she walked back through the door to the corridor.
“Punch me.” Steve told her as she looked at him like he’d lost his mind. “It’ll show him to trust you more. Besides it sounds like you’ve wanted to do it for some time.” He whispered lowly as she clenched her fist and planted one of the hardest punches the Captain has ever received into his eye. He’d go so far as to say that it was harder than the onslaught of Winter Soldier punches he received in Washington.
“That felt good.” She whispered before pulling her guns from the holsters on her thighs. “Keep walking.” She clicked the guns dramatically holding them up to their heads forcing them to walk forward. They reached the door, Ava kicking it open and pushing the both of them in with the help of the guns. “Sit there.” She nudged Steve pointing to the chair with the gun that was set up on the left side of the room. The agent watching the scene unfold with a smirk.
“Well done Asset.” He smirked walking over to Ava and stroking her cheek with his thumb watching Bucky with a smirk, who looked away. “You failed me. We saved you. We made you better when all along we should have gone for the girl.” He smirked more as he leaned in kissing her neck as she carried on staring straight ahead. “You have to pay. We no longer require your services Soldier.” He smirked taking the gun she had trained on Bucky and holding it to his head.
“Ava don’t do this stop him. This isn’t you. You don’t want him to die. He’s your husband. It’s me your angry with don’t do this to him.” Steve started to plead her head snapping in his direction.
“Shut up! If he wasn’t such a disappointment this wouldn’t be happening!” She screamed at the Captain.
“He’s not. He loves you! He chose you and he would again!” Steve begged her, she quickly silenced the room by taking a shot that just skimmed his head.
“Next time I won’t miss.” She warned him. “And your right, I’m not going to give him the chance to choose.” She moved to stand in front of her husband, staring at him.
“What are you doing?” The agent asked the gun still training on him.
“I’m taking what I want before you get what you want.” She told him, raising her eyebrow over at Bucky as she started to speak those fateful words he never wanted to hear again. As soon as he realised what she was doing Steve started to shout but Ava dealt with that with the swipe of her hand silencing him. She noticed Bucky trying to fight it shouting and covering his ears but she knew she had him. “Soldier?” She asked, her hand coming up to the gun to push it down watching him intently.
“Ready to comply.” He responded, the smile on Ava’s lips only growing.

“Your letting the Winter Soldier out?” The agent shouted at her, her stare never moving from her husband.
“Who are you? What is your purpose?” She asked.
“Asset. To complete any missions set for me.” He responded, cold and calculated.
“Any missions you won’t complete?” She asked.
“No.” The simple word, brought fear over Captain America. This wasn’t part of the plan. This wasn’t part of what they agreed to do. To release the Winter Soldier was never going to be part of any plan. She looked over at Steve with a smirk.
“Finish him.” She told him so carelessly as she moved out of the way of the Winter Soldier storming forward.
“Buck you don’t have to do this. Listen to me. Please try to come back. Come back to being Bucky.” Steve begged now.
“Your nothing without your shield are you? The great Captain America begging for his life.” The agent laughed, which quickly turned into a groan when Bucky’s hand plunged into his chest grabbing his heart, much like he’d seen his wife do many times.
“You did it.” Ava couldn’t hide her surprise as she saw Bucky holding it in his hand. She rushed over to him pulling out the headphones smiling. “Banner, Romanoff it’s all yours.” She shouted out as the two other team members rushed into the room, quickly retrieving the device. Ava looked at the heart before wiping her hand over it. “It’ll be preserved until you’ve finished.” She told them holding the organ out to the other female agent who looked disgusted as her and the Doctor walked out of the room.
“Bucky?” Steve had finally found the strength to walk over to his best friend, cautiously he looked at him.
“Yeah it’s me. We discovered if I listen to this then I can’t hear the words.” He held up the iPod Ava had bought him smiling. “Sorry we didn’t tell you. We didn’t think you’d approve.” He bit his lip as Steve just pulled them both into a hug.
“Shit I thought I was dead then.” He laughed as Ava pulled her a shocked face at his language.
“The bomb was synced with his heart, if we’d have killed him then the bomb would detonate. He’d be expecting me to rip his heart out but not the Winter Soldier.” Ava quickly filled in the Captain, who just shook his head.
“We should deal with him.” Steve spoke looking over at the body of the agent that had dropped on the floor shortly after his heart had been ripped out.
