The D in Apartment 23

Stay In Here

Harry heard a commotion from outside her door, she had fallen asleep on her couch watching some documentary on World War II. She let out a yawn and stretched jumping when there was a bang on her door. She slowly walked over to the wooden safeguard standing on her tip toes to peer through the spy hole. She quickly swung the door open when she saw Captain America raise his fist again to bang on the door. "Hi." She looked at them with bewilderment, her eyes scanning the group of people outside her door not finding her neighbour amongst them. "Is everything ok?" She coughed slightly to clear her throat from the 'I just woke up' sound.
"One of us has took a hit, think you can help?" Steve asked quickly as Harry's face fell. Is that why she couldn't see Bucky?
"Yeah sure. What kind of hit?" She spoke quickly, her senses picking up at she swung the door open and walked into her kitchen quickly followed by them.
"Bullet." A pained voice came out as she saw the group split in the middle to reveal a bent over Hawkeye.
"Can you get him on the breakfast bar?" She asked running into the bathroom to grab her kit before returning to her kitchen. She saw the injured agent lying back on her cheap island and for a brief moment she wondered if it would be able to hold the weight of the well built hero. "So are you planning on going to a hospital or is this it?" She asked snapping on the gloves and undoing the useless protective clothing to reveal the blooded abdomen and the unsightly hole.
"I was hoping this was it." He commented up to her as she frowned at the hole. Nodding Harry walked over to one of her kitchen cupboards pulling out the bottle of whiskey and walking back to him she popped the lid of the bottle handing it to him.
"Pain relief." She smiled slightly at him before starting the process to remove the foreign object that had caused the problem. She had to admit he was one of the best patients she had ever operated on, he didn't moan or hiss or moan. He just lay there whilst the young stranger worked her magic on yet another injury. He couldn't help but think his wife was right, maybe he was getting too old for this job. Harry could hear the chatter of the others who were scattered around her kitchen and front room, they were probably talking about the mission or something; she was too focused on Clint and maybe just where her good looking neighbour was. "You are just about done." She told him as she finished off the final stitch ensuring it was all standard before cleaning up the dried blood from around it. "You should rest for a few days, the stitching is a new synthetic material that bonds the skin quicker so long as you rest. Anymore missions you should sit out for a week." She smiled at him holding her hand out to help him up.

"Thanks for helping him, I didn't know where else to go." Steve told her. She was making coffee for everyone and he was leaning on the side of the counter watching the rest of the team who was sat around the table looking exhausted.
"For a team of crime fighters I think maybe you should get a doctor." She turned to look at him with a smile. "Bucky said it wasn't dangerous?" She mumbled hoping the mention of his name would prompt Steve to explain where he was.
"It wasn't supposed to be. We got ambushed they knew we were coming." He mumbled running his hands over his face with a sigh. "He's in his apartment, he took a hit" he started to say when her head snapped to the side quickly. "Not that kind. The people who brainwashed him attempted it again. He wanted to make sure he was him before he came to see you." He told her truthfully.
"So what's the plan Cap?" A new voice joined their conversation, Harry looked over her shoulder to see the billionaire Iron Man walk over. "We can't go back to the base, they know about it." He spoke, looking over at the stranger who busied herself with the coffee again.
"Nat's spoke to Fury he's trying. We just need to lay low until then." Steve commented taking one of the mugs that Harry had offered both men.
"If only we had a friend who could offer that." Tony spoke catching Harry's eye with a smirk.
"Tony no." Steve spoke shaking his head.
"You can stay. But you break it you pay it." She smiled grabbing the mugs and handing them out. "Anybody else injured?" She asked the group who shook their heads, just minor cuts and bruises was all she saw. She went and grabbed coats and hoodies that she had so that she could provide some form of warmth from the lack of blankets.
"So how long have you been a doctor for?" The guy she knew as Falcon asked her, they were sat around the floor except for Clint who was in her room resting.
"Over here? 2 years, over in England 3 years." She smiled politely, subconsciously looking at the door hoping that they'd be a loud knock.
"When did you start when you was a kid?" Tony asked as she rolled her eyes.
"Great skin care regime." She laughed biting her lip.
"Are you the one who fixed Bucky's arm?" Bruce asked as she blushed nodding.
"He told be the basics, I used to help my dad with work so I kind of knew." The blush never leaving her face. "Anyway you should probably all get some sleep." She smiled at them as small hums of approval filled the room. Harry grabbed her laptop before turning the lights off and settling on the stool at the breakfast bar that Bruce had cleaned for her, knowing there was no way she'd be able to sleep for a while.

She heard the soft breathes filling her front room about two hours after sending the Avengers to bed. Deciding she couldn't take it any longer she slipped off the chair and slowly made her way to the front door. She gently opened it and slipping through it with a soft click she wasted no time in knocking on the door opposite hers. She tapped her foot impatiently waiting for the super soldier to open up the door, which he did about thirty seconds later. "Harry hi. Is Clint ok?" He asked her, worry on his face as she nodded throwing herself into his arms. He quickly caught her, wrapping his arms around her tightly not saying anything just holding her.
"He's fine. Are you ok? You said it wasn't dangerous." She whispered quickly, gently letting go of him to look at him. She noticed fading bruises that looked old but definately weren't there yesterday.
"I'm ok, I told Steve to tell you I'd be over once everything settled down. It wasn't supposed to be." He told her frowning that his best friend didn't do as he asked.
"He did. I just wanted to make sure you was ok." She whispered. "Sorry." She blushed as he smiled at her. He'd never had this before, he never had someone worry about him - other than Steve - let alone a girl and in a small way he liked it.
"Don't be sorry. I'm sorry I made you worry." He smiled at her as he moved a piece of her hair of her face.
"I told you I don't like new neighbours." She smiled, blushing and looking down at the floor then at him. "They're still all here." She told him, looking back at the door then at Bucky. "I should go back in anyway, I snuck out past the Avengers." She laughed quietly turning back to her door.
"Hey Harry" Bucky's voice made her stop as she turned to face him "thanks for caring." He smiled as she tried to push her door to discovered she'd locked herself out. "Are you locked out?" He asked a small smile on his lips as she turned to face him blushing. "Come on you can stay in here." He told her opening the door wider for her to walk through.
