Tessa's Tale

Three Years Later

The training room was located outside, surrounded by many doorways, with a grand staircase leading up to a balcony. As Tessa leaned against one of the pillars, she examined the room's scene. Thor and Sif sparred in a ring in the middle of the room. Thor swung his hammer at her and Sif would dodge narrowly, swinging her double bladed sword in retaliation, which Thor would block with his hammer.

Tessa remembered a time where she had feelings for Thor, sh actually loved him, but took the hint that he loved Sif. They spent lots of time together, and it was obvious that Sif loved Thor. Or maybe didn't love Sif like she loved him, there was definitely a time where Tessa would've sworn that Thor returned her feelings. But with his upcoming coronation, he seemed distracted and bigheaded.

The Warriors Three lounged around and ate food, and Tessa couldn't help but smile at their camaraderie. She then looked around for Loki, before casting her eyes up to see that he sat on the ledge of the balcony, reading a book. She rolled her eyes playfully before walking up the steps towards him.

A smirk pulled at Loki's mouth as she neared him, and her heart skipped a beat. She didn't know how, but during her time at Asgard, she had fallen head over heels for Loki. Being in his very presence filled her with delight. He was so intelligent, charming, handsome, caring, and everything good in a man.

She leaned against the balcony, looking at him, "Do you see things clearer from up here?"

"Yes, a nice distance away from everyone else."

"You know you love them."

He scoffed, "You pronounced loathe wrong."

"Whatever. What are you reading?"

"A history book about Odin's father, Bor."

"Ooh la la, can I read it once you're done?" They had developed a thing where Loki would read a book and once done, Tessa would harass him for it. She had always liked history, and now that it had a magical touch to it, the subject interested her even more.

"Even if I refused, it would not deter you."

"You know me so well, Loki," She smiled. "Am I still dangerous?"

"In ways that you are oblivious to," He responded.

She blushed, "So, are you excited for Thor's coronation? It's just in one week. Your big brother is going to be king."

She could tell the statement had ruined the mood, as his face fell and he returned to reading his book solemnly.

"Loki, why are you still jealous of Thor?" She asked.

"I'm not!" He snapped at her, stopping the activities below, as they all looked up at them with shocked expressions. He lowered his voice to a hiss, "I am not jealous of Thor. I am his equal. You feed me that nonsense almost everyday."

"Because it's the truth," She grabbed his hand. "You are Thor's equal, but this inferiority complex of yours needs to go. Like, now."

He snatched his hands out of her grip, "I have no inferiority complex."

Without another word he stormed out of the room, and Tessa sighed. She descended the steps feeling lousy. Thor, Sif, and the Warriors Three walked over to her, surrounding her.

"What happened? Another one of Loki's tantrums?" Thor asked.

Tessa hugged her elbows, "Don't make fun of him."

"What's wrong?" asked Sif.

"What's wrong is Loki seems to forget that he's a prince. He always seems like he has to prove himself to someone."

"Loki isn't the best fighter," said Volstagg.

"Neither am I, but you all seem to treat me better than you do him!"

"You're a fast learner," said Sif. "Loki has had a thousand years."

"Don't put this on him. It is trying for him to be Thor's brother, because everyone loves Thor." She eyed him as he seemed to be amused by the conversation.

"Loki will get over it," He waved a hand dismissively. "He always does."

"One day he won't," Tessa warned. "One day he'll snap and do something terrible and it'll all be because you all ignored him!"

She spun on her heel and stormed out of the training room, considering finding out where Loki was, but deciding that he needed his space.

As she climbed up the steps, intending to go to her room, her vision began to blur. It began to get spotty, and she felt her movements slowing. She sat on the steps, hearing her ragged breathing, and she leaned back against the steps.

When she closed her eyes, she didn't open them again.

She began seeing flashes, a flash of Loki sitting on the throne, of Thor lying on his back dead with a beautiful woman above him, of a nuke heading for New York City, a purple man sitting in a floating chair, a dark red liquid, and of a woman with long black hair grabbing Thor's hammer with a smug smirk.

She saw so much so fast that she could hardly breathe, and she was vaguely aware of the sound of someone calling out her name. She tried to focus her thoughts, and when she did, she saw Odin floating wordlessly through space towards a black hole. She called out for him but she seemed to be pulled away from him as the black hole consumed him.

Her eyes shot open and both Thor and Loki stood above her. They both had looks of concern on their faces, and Thor held her in his arms. She looked at Loki, eyes wide and opened her mouth to say his name, but couldn't speak the words. Instead, she looked at Thor, closed her eyes, and fell into a comforting sleep.

***
Tessa awoke once again in her bed, resting comfortably underneath the white bedsheets. She sat up and yawned, stretching her arms. Once she settled, she gasped in surprise when she saw both Thor and Loki standing at the door. They both had looks of concern on their faces and she knew why. She had freaked out on the steps and had seen weird visions.

"Tessa, you're awake," Thor said, walking over to her. "Are you alright?"

"No, I'm not alright!" She exclaimed, fisting the sheets. "It happened again! I saw those goddamn visions in my mind!"

"It's fine, Tessa," said Loki, trying to be comforting. "Did you remember what you saw this time?"

"No," She shook her head, biting back her guilt at lying to them. She remembered every time, though she didn't want to tell them anything until she could put the pieces back together. "Even if I did, I wouldn't know how to explain it."

"You could at least try," Thor said a bit forcefully.

"You could be a little bit more sympathetic," Tessa sighed, holding a hand to her heart, feeling faint. "Just a little bit."

"We are," said Loki, giving Thor a scolding look. "I don't imagine that you having your visions a week before Thor's coronation is a coincidence."

"I don't think it had anything to do with Thor's coronation," Tessa said.

"How can you tell?" Thor asked, "If you can't remember them?"

Tessa shifted uncomfortably in the bed, "I...just..."

"What are you not telling us?" Thor asked, again in a forceful tone that made Tessa feel anxious, like she was about to persecuted and sent down to the dungeons.

"Can I have a moment alone with Loki?" She asked. "There is something I must tell him. Something important."

"Can it not wait?" Thor asked. "There was something I intended to ask you as well."

She blinked, "Is it important?"

"Very."

If Tessa didn't know any better, Thor sounded nervous. "Okay, what is it?" She brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

"Leave us." Thor told Loki, like he was above him.

Loki seemed hesitant to leave, and honestly Tessa didn't want him to leave. "Wait," She said, and both brothers looked at her. Both eyes blue, but yet a different shade. "Whatever you have to say to me you can say to Loki. I don't want him to go." Thor's face fell into one of disappointment. "And I don't want you to go either, Thor. I want you both to stay. I need the both of you right now."

Thor nodded in understand, "Yes, well, I wanted to ask for your hand in marriage."

Tessa froze, her eyes locked on Thor. His eyes stared back at her, and she looked at Loki, whose mouth dropped so low it could have hit the floor. His eyes were wide, and the light lit up his electric blue eyes nicely.

She looked back to Thor, swallowing a lump in her throat, "Um, why me?"

"You are the best woman in all the Nine Realms," Thor started. "You are beautiful, charming, compassionate, and determined. I have never seen anyone with your strong heart and willing to forgive all, to trust all." He grabbed her hands in his. "I love you."

"I don't know what to say," She breathed. "I didn't know you felt this way about me."

"I have for a while," He said. "And I fear my ascension to the throne would be nothing without a queen by my side."

"And you want that queen to be me?" She asked. "Thor, I'm not worthy."

"Yes you are!" He said excitedly, a wide smile on his face. "Fate has brought you to me to be my bride, my queen."

Tessa didn't know what to say, or if Thor would even take no for an answer. So instead she leaned forward and gave him a kiss on the cheek. She did not take his hands from hers, savoring their worth.

"Tell you what, on the day of your coronation, I will give you an answer. You have given me a grand offer, an offer that I need time to consider. But I promise you that I will you an answer."

"I look forward to it," said Thor, who kissed my hands before walking out of the room, giving Loki a weird passing glance that I couldn't decipher.

Loki looked at me, his eyes burning with anger, "Tell me you're not."

"I might," Tessa admitted.

"How can you even consider marrying that idiotic, mindless---"

"Hey!" Tessa interrupted. "He's your brother. Do you have a problem with me marrying him?"

"What do you think?" He demanded. "What is it about mortals that make them so stupid?"

Tessa's lips parted in surprise, and he sighed, "I didn't mean---"

Tessa turned her head away from him, "Get out."

"Let me explain."

She looked at him, "Okay. Go on."

He seemed to hesitate before responding, "It's just that you could do better than Thor. He is not worthy of you."

"Who am I worthy of?" She asked, and he didn't respond. "You?" She hadn't meant it in a harsh way, but he flinched away from her as if she had slapped him. "No, I didn't mean it like that."

"I guess I'll be leaving now," Loki said coldly, turning to leave. Panic flooded through her and she held out an arm, causing the door to close. The action drained her a little bit, and she laid back, her head resting on the pillow. He turned back towards her, once again shocked. "You shouldn't do that, Tessa. You know what it does to you."

"Do you love me?" She asked suddenly, and he froze, every muscle in his body tensing up.

It was the longest minute of her life before Loki responded. "No." The answer hurt and she closed her eyes temporarily.

"Okay," She said, flinching at how destroyed her voice sounded. "There's something I need to tell you. About my visions. I lie to you and Thor. I do remember them, but this time it was very haunting."

"What did you see?" He asked.

"You, on the throne of Asgard," She didn't know why she was telling him. Maybe because she wanted to see how he would react, and Loki's eyes widened. He began to grin and she wondered how a little smile could bring her such pain and joy. She was starting to feel the fatigue roll in once more. "You were....king, Loki. That's...what...I want...you...to know. You're...fit to be...a king. You're...worthy..."

With a final sigh, she passed out.
