I agree, things have could been so much different if things had just come to light sooner.

Yeah I suppose thats true. It tends to be a pattern that people in high power have trouble balancing that with family, whether they show it or not. He may have done the best he could but it still could have been way better. "you're both meant to be king but only one of you will" really bothers me. Why not tell loki he is meant for his own task that will be great in its own right? Would have prevented alot of issues.

Odin was not pleasing in the movies, but even less so in the comics. I'd actually rather him in the movies. But then again, Thor was a bit of an ass in the comics as well, but so too was Loki.
I didn't want Odin to be the complete ass in this story. I feel like he wasn't the best parent, but he also wasn't the worst.
