Dark Heart

Chapter 8

After letting her mind play on the situation for a bit, Jess yawns and stretches, tryin to roll off the tension wound through her body. She was surprised no one had already come to take her in for questioning about Loki, maybe they were trying to be civil and wait for her to come to them.....surely Thor didn't keep what had happens to just himself.

Standing, she tosses the fluffy white robe unto the bed as she dons the outfit from earlier that Loki had been so eager to pluck from her body. Her cheeks flush and flame a bright red at the memories and she combs her fingers through her hair to push them away and focus her thoughts.

Grabbing her purse she heads out, down the elevator and to the lobby where the very chatty manager meets her with a flustered greeting, making her laugh. "M-Ms. Livingston. Your chauffeur is at the front, Ms. Potts is waiting for you. I called them as you asked." Giving the anxious man a small smile, she nods and walks past the glass revolving doors and to the sleek black limo. Pausing just out side of it with her hand resting on the handle, she chews her lip, mentally preparing herself for the sure-to-be severe punishment for her time with Loki.
Pulling open the door, she slides in beside the red head, already tensing for the moment...but none comes. Glancing up towards the woman, she is surprised to see her watching her curiously. "Is everything alright Jess?" Sitting a little more straight, she gives her a quick nod and rambles off an excuse. "I-I'm fine...just not feeling so well is all." Nodding her head, Pepper glances down at her paper work, and shifts through more of it, closely examining the numbers then gives her a sympathetic look. "That's what Thor told us. I hope it's nothing to bad. Do you feel well enough to come and answer more questions?" She tenses at the mention of Thor's name and nods. "Well enough I guess....Is that all he told you?" Looking up quizzically, Pepper gives a slow nod, before motioning for the driver to let them out at the front of Stark Tower. She hadn't even realized they had been moving. "Should I be worried about something Jess?" Giving her head another shake, she turns and gazes out the window, hoping the woman wouldn't prod. Thankfully she didn't.

Getting out of the driver's seat, the chauffer hurries around and opens the door for the both of them, giving a small respectful head nod and smile, he then makes his way back to the car to park it. Leading the way forward, the sound of Pepper's heels echo throughout the building as all eyes turn towards them, watching as they step into the elevator and descend up. The shrill chime of the elevator sounds, marking their stop at the top floor of Stark Tower only to be greeted by the infamous Tony once more.

"Hey Bombshell-" A glare from his CEO has him stopping midsentence, clearing his throat, and correcting himself. The small gesture makes her laugh as Pepper throws her a victorious smile. "I mean...Jessica. How nice to see you again." Throwing the red head a smirk, he continues on. "My offer is still on the table to be my own personal bunny but if you don't choose it, ya know, no hard feelings. You wouldn't be alone though! Natalie also has that proposition, I'm sure one of you will agree!" Rolling her eyes, she follows behind the two has he continues to ramble on, throwing sexual innuendos here and there, some actually making her laugh.

Two staff members swing open the conference room doors and close them behind the trio. Once more, she stands before the group of heroes that, on more than one occasion, saved the city she loved.

A certain pair of deep blue eyes refuse to look in her direction, the tension rolling off of the god in waves. Of course the only open seat in the room would be directly to his left. With a discontent sigh, she walks over and takes her seat, shifting uncomfortable under his scrutinizing gaze. With effort, he looks away once more, having not spoken a word to her.
Two shield officers pace into the room without so much as a knock and turn to her with a hard gaze. "Ma'am, Agent Hill will not be stopping by for a visit, we do not want this...questioning.. to be compromised with blood relation. We will ask you a standard set of question, please answer yes or no to the following." Giving a nervous nod, she glances around the room at the group of heroes, but they all guiltily look away.
"Have you been in the presence of the escaped god, Loki?" "Y-yes" His pen scribble quickly on the notepad as he continues through to the next question. "Did he inflict pain upon you in any sort of way?" Her mind thinks back to when he pinned her to the wall, how his hand clamped around her throat, but then to the soothing soft touches to which he had caressed her. "Um..yes and no, he-" She is cut of by the agent." "It's a yes or no question ma'am, seeing how yes was the first answer, that is what I am putting down. Now, moving on." With a sigh, she slouches in her seat guiltily, knowing she's only making Loki look worse.
"Do you have a relationship to or with him?" At his words, she feels the blood in her veins turn to ice as her face pales. "Excuse me??" Grinning, the agents sits on the edge of the table beside her and folds his hands into his lap, the notepad still gripped tightly. "It is a simple yes or no question, unless...there's something you not telling us..." A low rumble, almost a feral growl, sounds from beside her as Thor abruptly stands to his feet beside her, hands clenched tightly into fists.
"You have crossed a line. I suggest kindly that you avert the subject at hand." Standing, the agents boldly leans across the table challenging Thor's patience as he narrows his eyes. "And why would I do that? We have reason to question her for this. Starks little tech over here as been surveying the hotel she is at for fluxes in the matter surrounding it. It bends, but only with magic. We've been making sure Loki did come to reclaim his prize, but go figure, last night the alarms went off. There was a flux. Want to explain to me why a source of great magic was identified to be in her bedroom this morning?" With a hardened gaze, Thor turns to the rest of the curious group and makes a grand gesture with his hands.
"Do you all wish to know the answer to this question? It was I who was in her room. We engaged in more....intimate matters. Now that you have delved into the privacy of the poor girl, let the subject be forgotten...or I will handle the situation myself." Although horrified at the thought that everyone in the room thought them to be sleeping together, she was utterly grateful that he had covered for her, and curious as to why he did it. She also didn't fail to notice that the last part was directed toward the over stepping shield agent.
Clapping enthusiastically, Tony chimes in from his reclined position at the head of the table across from them. "Well, well, well, that certainly was a twist in the story I was not expecting, but I've got to give it to you big guy, you scored. Big time. No wonder she didn't accept my offer..." Avoiding her gaze, Thor returns to his sit, his shoulders slumped, his golden hair acting as a curtain to hide his face from her. The agents pace to the door, giving them one last look before addressing her for the last time. "Thank you for your time Ms. Jessica. We apologize for the intrusion on your privacy but questions must get answers, and Loki must be found. We will run this information through the system and send out scouts looking for him." Without another word, they exit from the conference room, leaving the group to itself.
A sarcastic voice sounds from the corner of the room, the brown haired Peter Parker. "Well that was certainly tense and exciting. I think I'm done with meetings for now. Who wants to go catch a bite to eat? This spider certainly has an appetite...I'm thinking hot dogs." A chorus of agreements sound from the heroes as they all stand and exit, leaving her alone in the room. As Peter is about to leave, he catches her still sitting there and hesitantly walks up.
"Uh, Hi. I'm Peter. I'm not sure if you remember me, but we met on your birthday." Slowly smiling up at him, she gives a small wave. "Ya, I remember." Shifting, he adjust the beanie on his hand before shoving his hands deep into the pocket of his jeans. "You know, you can come and eat with us. You are still our guest. Unless...you're a vegetarian, and don't like hotdogs...then I totally get it." Grinning, she stands and pushes away the feelings that are in turmoil, and nods setting her hand in the crook of the arm he extended towards her. "That sounds great. I could really use a distraction right about now."
Making their way to the lobby, a mischievous grin crosses his face as he turns to her excitedly. "I have an idea for a way we could get their faster than the others..." Reaching into his pocket, he pulls out his latex mask and slips it on, the corners of it's mouth tilting up in a broad grin. "Eh, how bout it?" With a breathy laugh, she nods. "Sure, why not. It can't be that bad, right?" What had she gotten herself into.

Notes

Sorry this has taken so long. I have had the biggest writers block ever but I think I've got quite a few ideas for this. ;) please remember though. This story hasn't been thought out. It was a spur of the moment thing so the updates will not be regular and the story may take some very unexpected swings. Thank you all for the comments and reads!

No by all means please do leave constructive criticism! I'm always open to it in an effort to make my writing much better. :) I had actually written the story in first person which is what I'm am more familiar with, but I felt that it would flow better in third. So writing it in a view I'm not quite familiar with has been a bit of a challenge, so when someone gives me suggestions, I really do appreciate them. I'm taking your advise into consideration, and will try to fix the writing as best as I can. Do feel free to give me your opinion if you catch my next chapter. Thanks! :)

Hello there. I just clicked on your fanfiction quite randomly, and I just wanted to leave a comment.

First things first: I'm afraid I'm a douchebag reviewer ;) I really try hard to leave constructive criticism, which can lead to me being a little nitpicky or preachy. I apologise in advance; I don't mean any harm and I only want to help you.

I think you have a flavour for the dramatic and your writing style seems solid and steeped in emotional undertones, which is very pleasing. It might have been better to use past tense, since the world of writing has apparently set itself on using this tense, which would make your fic look more smoothly. Furthermore, using paragraphs would make it more easy to savour your fanfiction.

Kudos however for dramatic descriptions, they are really a delight to read.
