Fear Her

Born to Die

"Steve!"

"Yeah?"

"Have you seen my suit?"

"Uh, yeah let me find it, I think its in here."

Steve started shuffling through the stuff on the floor that Jeanette had put there. Well, more like thrown. She wasn't very organised and left stuff everywhere. He rolled his eyes, and picked up her suit off the ground.

“Got it.” He said, walking over the bathroom. The door swung open, and she grabbed it, quickly closing the door.

“Thaaaaank you!” Jeanette yelled out, and Steve rolled his eyes. Jeanette was in the bathroom getting ready. You would think that she would have more pressing things on her mind, but no Jeanette seemed to be more worried about her appearance than her job. She stepped out of the bathroom and walked out into the living room where Steve was waiting. He had suited up, and Jeanette bit her lip at the sight.

"Tell me I'm your National Anthem." Jeanette sang sarcastically. He knitted his eyebrows and she rolled her eyes.

"You really should make a list of everything you don’t understand. It’ll help in the future when people make references, you’ll actually understand" She said, and Steve nodded, getting his shield.

"Ready?" He asked, and Jeanette nodded, putting her gun in her thigh holster.

"After you my darling."

S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters.

Jeannette and Steve walked up the bridge to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters where Fury had moved most of the employees. Natasha was waiting at the end, and smiled slightly when she saw them.
“Steve you said Natasha. I didn’t know you were talking about Natalia.” Jeanette said, grinning at Natasha. Steve looked from Jeanette to Natasha, and back to Jeanette.

“You know her?” He asked, as they walked up to Natasha. They both nodded, and Jeanette turned to Natasha.

“Long time Nat.”

“Too long.” Natasha replied, and Jeanette smirked. Steve stared at both of them for a minute as they walked off, trying to figure out what had just happened. He sighed, and joined them next to Fury.

“So, I was thinking that a group of maybe 3 or 4 of us could enter the building, and spread out. I could confront Alfonso in the lobby, try to get him to back down” Jeanette explained, and Fury nodded.

“So, what happens if that doesn’t work?” Natasha asked, and Jeanette smiled.

“Shoot him. Preferably, multiple times.” Jeanette replied, and then went to go find who she would bring with her. Natasha raised an eyebrow and looked over at Steve, who shrugged.

“She told me she wants to paint something with his blood.” He said, and Natasha laughed quietly. Jeanette came back a minute later, and grinned.

“Ok, so I want Agent, what’s her name. Maria Hall, that’s it. And oh, um. Your boyfriend, Clint. He’s good at shooting things, right?” Jeanette said, her voice flat. Natasha probably would have blushed if she wasn’t Natasha. Steve just laughed, and then Fury walked over, looking at the three of them.

“Ready? I swear, if yall fuck this up.”

“We’re ready. You have a super soldier, a S.H.I.E.L.D agent, two master assassins, and the worlds most wanted, most attractive contract killer in the world. What could possibly go wrong?” Jeanette responded sarcastically and Fury rolled his eyes. Maria and Clint came over, and they all headed towards the building.

“Alright, I’m going to enter on the first floor and wait in the lobby. Natasha, you stay nearby, but out of sight, which I guess that’s kinda obvious. Maria, you patrol the upper levels, we don’t want anyone accessing the computers, and Clint be ready to shoot if anything goes wrong. Oh and Steve. Do you patriotic thing.” Jeanette said, and they all nodded. Maria loaded her gun and then left the group, heading towards the elevator with Clint.

“You’re sure about this?” Steve asked quietly getting ready to leave, and Jeanette nodded.

“Ready as I’ll ever be. And Steve, don’t get shot okay?” Jeanette said, and he smiled. Steve grabbed his shield, and then went out into the aircraft hangar. That just left her and Natasha.

“You didn’t tell him right?” Natasha questioned and Jeanette shook her head.

“Nope, you?”

“Not a word. He might die if he found out.”

“See you on the other side then.” Jeanette said, and Natasha smirked.

“Hey, follow your advice and don’t get shot. I can’t imagine what I’d do without my little sister.” Natasha replied, and Jeanette rolled her eyes.

“You’re only older by two minutes, it doesn’t count.” Jeanette goaded, and then walked out into the lobby. She could tell that Alfonso was there. After years of studying his weak points, she could practically point him out by the way he breathes.

“Don’t make me sad, don’t make me cry. Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough, I don’t know why. Keep making me laugh, let’s go get high. The road is long, we carry on, try to have fun in the meantime.” Jeanette sang, her voice flat and dreary. It echoed through the empty building, and she heard feet shuffling.

“Come take a walk on the wild side. Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain, you like your girls insane. Choose your last words, this is the last time. Cause you and I, we were born to die” She continued, and then smiled as Alfonso walked out from one of the halls.

“Darling, your voice may surpass your beauty.” He said, and Jeanette rolled her eyes.

“Your such a meatcake sometimes. Like, you seriously don’t know how much I want to stab you right now.” She retorted, and he threw his hands up in fake surrender.

“Must you make all these threats? I only wish to talk.” Alfonso answered, his voice smooth and calm.

“Yes I must. And if you were here to talk why are there three people pointing guns at me?”

“You’ve gotten sharp”

“And you’re still a meatcake.”

Alfonso sighed, and took a step towards her. Jeanette pulled her gun out, and he stopped, giving her a look.

“You can talk with a gun pointed at your head.” She said, and he put his hands in his pockets.

“Alright, ask away.”

“What do you want? Why are you doing this?” Jeanette began and he smiled.

“All I want is you. I have been watching you ever since you left. I know who you have been with. I only need proof of a relationship, so I set up that little party. Tell me, have your injuries healed? I made sure they did not scar your beautiful face.” He replied, and Jeanette clenched her jaw.

“I had a feeling that was you. Well, this little reunion has been great and all, but I can’t let you stay here. So this is what’s gonna happen. You’re going to stand down, and surrender your men. Then, you’re going to tell me the deactivation code for the bomb you set in Fury’s office, and then I’m going to shoot you. Multiple times” Jeanette explained, her voice cold and her face expressionless.

“And how is that good for me?” He asked, and Jeanette smiled.

“Because no matter what happens, you will die. I will most likely die too. So why don’t we do this the easy way?” She said, and he smirked.

“I will have to pass”

Jeanette laughed, and then looked up at Clint. He saw her, and then drew his arrow. It sailed across the lobby and hit one of Alfonso’s men. Two seconds later the other one fell, and then the last. Jeanette pulled out her phone, and then typed a zero, sending it to Maria. A second later, she replied.

“Bomb diffused.” Maria typed, and Jeanette smirked, moving her gun up to Alfonso’s head. She walked towards him until she was at point blank range.

“This is the part where I get to empty my gun into your head. It’s been nice talking, and I hoped you enjoyed your stay. See you in hell darling.” She said, and fired until her gun was empty. When he was just a pool of blood and flesh on the ground, she put her gun away, and headed towards the door. With any luck, she would be gone before anyone noticed. It was true, she had developed feeling for Steve, and that was the problem. First, Jeanette hadn’t ever been in a situation like this before, and second, she couldn’t keep getting him in danger. Within five minutes, she made it to the parking garage, hotwired someone’s car, and left before Steve had even gotten into the lobby.

Steve spent a month waiting for her to show up, or run in to her at some bar, but he never did. He really hadn’t expected to care so much. Honestly, to anyone else, Jeanette was a slutty, violent, crazy person that probably should be locked away in a mental hospital. But to Steve she was so much more. Every night he went to sleep hoping for her to wake him up in the middle of the night, and woke up everyday hanging on to some slim chance that she would be sitting on the couch watching Supernatural. But she wasn’t. She was gone, and Steve had to accept that. Jeanette was gone.

Or was she?
