Fear Her

Retreat

January 1st, 2015
5:01 a.m.

“Roses, Bel Air, take me there, I've been waiting to meet you. Palm trees in the light, I can sleep late at night. Darling, I'm waiting to greet you, come to me, baby.” A voice sang, waking Steve up. At first he thought he was still sleeping, but then he was worried he was hallucinating.

“Jeanette?” He muttered, looking for the light. When he flicked it on, she was standing there, red hair and all. Some dried blood speckled her face, and she was a couple shades tanner than before.

“Hey Steve” Jeanette answered quietly, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. It was bright red like Natasha’s and looked natural. Steve blinked a couple of times, before throwing the sheets off, and wrapping his arms around Jeanette. She didn’t hug back for a second due to being surprised, but then she sighed, and wrapped her arms around his neck. He pulled away, and but his and on her face.

“Where the hell have you been?” He asked, more concerned than annoyed.

“Working I guess.” She responded, looking down at the ground.

“What happened? After you shot him, you just disappeared. We looked everywhere for you.” Steve continued, and Jeanette blinked.

“After I shot Alfonso, I left. I didn’t want it to happen again. I...I didn’t want you to get hurt.” She said, and then Steve wrapped his arms around her again.

“Hey Steve?”

“Yeah?”

“I might’ve broke your door handle again.”

“That’s okay”

Jeanette buried her head into his shoulder, and breathed in his scent. Tears welled in her eyes, and she blinked, causing them to roll down her cheek.

“I missed you” Steve said, and Jeanette looked up at him.

“Really?” She asked, wiping the tears off her face. He smiled and ran his hand through her hair.

“Yeah. I see you changed your hair. Again.” He murmured, and she laughed quietly.

“Actually this is my natural hair color.” She answered, and he smiled.

“I like it. Looks like Nat’s hair.”

“That might be because I’m her twin sister.”

“What”

Jeanette smiled awkwardly and took a step back.

“Surprise?” She said, and Steve raised an eyebrow at her.

“So you’re…Natasha twin? Like fraternal twin?” He asked, and Jeanette shook her head.

“Identical”

“What”

“One time, my cover was blown. Like completely. Everybody knew who I was, and so to keep them from going after Tash, I got plastic surgery.” Jeanette explained, and Steve sat down, slightly in shock.

“What”

“Can you stop saying what. Honestly you’re a 70 year old popsicle. Identical twins aren’t that rare.” Jeanette said, rolling her eyes. He looked over at her and sighed.

“Sorry, I just never imagined you or Natasha being the sister type.” He replied, and Jeanette made a face.

“What do you mean sister type? I could be a good sister. Well. Okay maybe not. But still!” Jeanette argued, and Steve grinned at her.

“What? What’s so funny?” She asked, and he got up, walking over towards her.

“You. I missed you, that’s all. Its been what five months, and you still haven’t changed.” He said, and Jeanette smiled.

“Is that a good thing?”

“That is a very good thing”
Steve put his hand on her cheek, and pressed his lips against hers. She pulled away with a stupid grin on her face and Steve’s eyes widened.

“Don’t say anything” He warned and Jeanette stuck her bottom lip out.

“You know me too well darling.” She replied, and then headed towards the kitchen. Steve rolled his eyes and walked after her.

“Apparently not since I didn’t even know Natasha was your sister.”

“GET OVER IT STEVE”

“Alright, alright” Steve said throwing his hands up in surrender. Jeanette smiled, and wrapped her arms around his neck.

“I missed you too Steve. I thought about you every night. I’m sorry I left, but I needed to. I won’t leave again.” She said, and kissed him. He smiled and kissed her back. He pulled back softly, and looked down at her.

“Why did you leave?” He asked, and Jeanette took a step back.

“I told you, I was worried.” Jeanette answered, her voice choking.

“You aren’t telling me everything. Why did you leave Jeanette, I want the truth, please.”

“I just. After I shot him, Alfonso, I...I couldn’t stay. I wanted to but, I just had to leave. I was worried for you and Nat and I didn’t want to put anyone else in danger. I felt like I needed to just get away, and make sure that no one else would get hurt because of me. If something happened to you or Nat or anyone, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. I needed to run away. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” Jeanette said, breaking out in tears. Steve wrapped his arms around her and stroked her head.

“Its okay Jeanette. Its okay.” He whispered, a tear sliding down his cheek. He kissed the top of her head. Jeanette stayed the night, and then the next night. She started working at S.H.I.E.L.D, and all was good. Until Hydra was discovered, and S.H.I.E.L.D came crashing down with it. That’s where the story gets interesting.
