Chapter Two
***Chapter Two***
We have just dropped Pepper of at the airport, and all Phil would tell me was that we had to go pick up a Steve Rogers guy.
The name sounded familiar, but I didn't look into it. Finally, we pulled up into a gym of some sort.
"Okay so Phil, explain. You want me to go in there and ask him to come with us to be part of the Avengers. Who is this guy, first off. Secondly, why do I have to do it?"
"Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America, is neede-"
"Okay, nevermind. Just bring me up to speed, and everything I need to tell him.
Now I know why that name sounded so familiar; Phil talks about him all the time. I can't believe it took me so long, to figure it out.
I walk into the gym to see a guy, who I am guessing is Steve, in a trance almost, while punching the punching bag.
I stand there watching him, when the punching bag flies of the hook.
He breaks from his trance, and puts one of his spare bags on the hook.
"Trouble sleeping?" I ask.
He looks at me, then goes back to the punching bag. "I slept for seventy years, ma'am. I think I've had my fill."
I chuckle. "Then you should be out. Celebrating! Seeing the world."
Steve looks at me, then goes to the bench, while unwrappinghis hands. "I went under, and the world was at war. I wake up, and they say we won. They didn't say we lost."
I laugh a little, despite the situation. "Yeah. We've made some mistakes along the way. Some very recently."
"Are you here with a mission, ma'am?"
"I am."
"Trying to get me back in the world?"
I grin, "Trying to save it, sir," I say as I hand him the folder Phil gave me.
"Hydra's secret weapon," he whispers, as he sits on the bench.
"Howard Stark fished that out of the ocean when he was looking for you. He thought what we think. The tesseract could be the key to unlimited sustainable energy. That's something the world sorely needs."
He hands me back the folder. "Who took it from you?"
I pause. "His name is Loki." Then I add, "He's not from around here, " and laugh at my little joke.
He looks at me strangely, then I say, "There's a lot we're going to have to bring you up to speed on. That is, if you're in. The world has gotten even stranger, than you even know."
He looks at me, then as he walks away to grab his stuff says, " At this point I doubt anything would surprise me."
I laugh. "Ten bucks says you're wrong!"
"Oh, I almost forgot! There's a debriefing packet back at your apartment."
"And Steve, is there anything you know about the tesseract that we should know?"
"Yeah. You should of left it in the ocean."
I chuckle to myself. I walk back out to the car.
"So how'd it go?" asks Phil.
"Hopefully a success."
