The House in the Field

Disney

Ava woke up when she felt someone stir at the side of her. Rubbing her eyes and letting out a yawn when she stretched she smiled as the memories of last night flooded her mind and senses. She looked over at her sleeping husband, who too was coming around, the smile never leaving her face. She sat up, but, quickly realised that wasn’t the best idea when she saw her bra hanging off the lamp, she lay back down along with the cover to hide her naked self.
“Morning beautiful.” His rough voice came out from the side of her as he kissed her forehead. She laughed at his statement whilst watching the smile cover his face.
“It’s not morning, it’s one in the afternoon and I have last nights make up down my face.” She laughed leaning over to peck his lips.
“Why do you have last nights make up still on? Wouldn’t get this from the girl in my time.” He shook his head laughing as she slapped his chest playfully.
“Because some ass couldn’t keep his hands to himself for 5 minutes.” She laughed looking over at her bra, Bucky following her gaze remembered that he pinged it across the room burst out laughing. “I should shower.” She commented but made no attempts to move, she was just to comfortable.
“Can I ask you something?” He looked over at her noticing her raised eyebrow answer. “Will you catch me up with everything I’ve missed?” He run his hand through her hair gently, tugging when she nodded.
“How about with start with films? Let me get cleaned up and we’ll go down to the cinema room yeah?” She asked as he smiled nodding excitingly. “If you’re lucky we might even sit on the back row.” She smirked up at him as she ran her fingers up his chest and neck swiping her thumb across his lips with a smile.

“So this has got to be my favourite Disney film.” She told him as the start of Hercules lightened up the room.
“You said that about the last three.” He chuckled as she ignored his comment. They’d gone down to the cinema room armed with snacks, drinks and a quilt and she was lay with her head on his chest and her legs tucked up on the space at the side of her. He had his metal arm wrapped around her bringing it up so that he could run the hand through her hair.
“He’s so strong and misunderstood.” She smiled. “And Meg is just perfect. I love that girl.” She laughed focusing back on the screen. “Does it rust?” She asked after about half an hour of silence as they both focused on the film.
“My arm?” He asked her quietly, humming her response he frowned slightly. “No. it just gets worn down, that’s why it always needs upgrading.” He whispered, subconsciously holding her tighter.
“Can you feel from it? Like can you feel this?” She gently ran her hand down his arm.
“I don’t know. I sometimes think I can. I know its probably impossible, but, sometimes it feels like there something there. I guess its just my minds way of trying to normalise it.” He shrugged softly, looking down at her to see her attention fully on his arm. “Does it not scare you?” He whispered, taken back by the way she was being so gentle with it.
“No. I know you can control it. I saw that when you pinned the doctor with your flesh arm. It’s part of you James, no part of you scares me.” She finally met his gaze as he smiled slightly.
“I can be a little scary right?” He asked a small smile on his lips, his forehead resting on hers.
“So scary.” She laughed running her hand up the metal.
“You’re struggling.” He commented once she’d settled back down, her fingers absentmindedly playing with his metal ones.
“You saw how long it took me to control my powers.” She whispered sadly, remembering all the times she nearly killed him as he stood by to help her. “I don’t know my strength anymore. I’m trying to screen my blood to see how quick the healing factor is, but, it’s coming back with nothing. Whatever substance it was, there’s no record of it. It doesn’t make sense; surely it should be similar to the one they used on you? My aging serum is somewhat similar to yours. Something doesn’t add up James, I feel like I don’t know where I come from anymore.” She shook her head to shake the tears away as he pulled her closer. “I keep wanting to screen Steve, but, how do you ask a guy for blood?” She laughed sadly. “I just know I need it out of me.” She whispered avoiding his stare.
“You could die.” His short response came out.
“I’m not really living though am I? it’s just fear.” She whispered.
“No. As an expert of living in fear trust me, here in this tower, that isn’t fear. If I help you find your limits promise we’ll stop trying to clear it of you. I know you can control it, it’s part of you Ava and no part of you scares me.” He whispered quoting her from before as she looked up at him, kissing his lips softly with a ‘thank you’.

“Why is my gravel all messed up?” Tony asked as he looked out from the kitchen area causing the two soldiers to look over at each other with a smirk. They’d come upstairs once everyone was back, they wanted to make sure there was no lasting injuries from their mission.
“Maybe it was the postman.” Ava commented before take a sip of her coffee to stop her from laughing at Tony’s glare.
“How was your mission?” Bucky asked changing the subject, looking over at Steve.
“Oh it wasn’t a mission, we just had something we needed to finish.” He smiled over at his best friend hoping that he wouldn’t push the subject any further.
“Oh ok.” Bucky nodded, frowning slightly into his own mug of coffee.
“What have you both done today then?” Wanda asked once the room had fallen silent for too long.
“Ava caught me up on some films I missed.” He looked over at her as she smiled up at him. “If I have to see another Disney film I’m going to seriously hurt somebody though.” He laughed as Steve shook his head.
“I would not have you down as a Disney fan.” Steve laughed looking at Ava who raised her eyebrow at him.
“They’re pure sunshine and happiness.” She defended as everyone laughed at her causing her to glare at them all. “Asses.” She laughed.
