Goddess of Deception

I walk away from the hammer and go into the lab S.H.I.E.L.D set up around the hammer.

“Um, can you explain,” Jasper said

“I think it’s fairly obvious,” Phil said

“No it's not,” Jasper said

“Thor is my Father. That is his hammer. Those fairy tales are not fairy tales.” I said

“So what do we do?” Jasper said

“Nothing, only Thor can wield the hammer,” I said

“Do you have any more information on any of this,” I asked

“Not us. We’ve been watching Jane Foster. She is close to figuring this out.” Jasper said

“Where is she,” I said

We are sent to Jane's house and S.H.I.E.L.D starts to confiscate her work. I am looking through some of her stuff.

“She is writing about wormholes and space,” I said

Jane walks in

“What the hell is going on here?” Jane yells

“Miss Foster I am agent Coulson and this is Agent Thorsdotter we are with S.H.I.E.L.D,” Phil said

“I don’t care who you work for you can't do this,” Jane said

“Thorsdotter? As in Daughter of Thor?” The man asked

I looked up from the papers

“Yea, It’s a family name. Why?” I said

“Oh, I'm Swedish so…” The man said

“Norwegian,” I said

“Jane this is more serious than you realize. Let it go” Her friend tells here

“Let it go, this is my life,” Jane said

“We're here investigating a security threat. We need to appropriate your equipment and all your atmospheric data.” Phil said

“By "appropriate" you mean "steal?”” Jane said

Phil gives her a check

“This should more than compensate you for your trouble,” Phil said

She throws the check on the ground

“I can't just pick up replacements from RadioShack! I made most of that equipment myself!” Jane said

“Then I'm sure you can do it again,” I said

“And I'm sure I can sue you for violating my constitutional rights!” Jane said

“I’m sorry, but we’re the good guys,” I told Jane as we try to leave.

She stands in front of us.

“So are we. We are on the verge of discovering something extraordinary.” Holding up her notebook

“Everything I know about this phenomenon is in this lab and in this book, and no one has the right to take it from me,” Jane said

Then another agent takes the notebook from her hands

”Thank you for your cooperation,” Phil said as we leave.

We go back to the lab. And start going through all of Jane's stuff.

“Hey, Fury sent me.” A man said

“Clint wasn’t expecting you tonight,” Phil said

“Yea, I heard you have some magical hammer thing,” Clint said

I spend all night looking at Jane's stuff. This is the closest I've ever come to finding Thor. I am flipping through the pages when I hear thunder. Phil barges into my room.

“Is that you?” Phil asked

“No. He’s here” I said standing up

“Agent down. We have a perimeter breach.” The radio yells

I run to the hammer. It starts to make noise. I see a man enter with long blonde hair. It's him. I watch to see if he can lift the hammer. He goes to grab the hammer. I smile. But he can't.

“No. I don’t understand.” I said to myself

Phil walks up to me

“I thought you said it was him,” Phil said

“I thought it was. It has to be.” I said

They take the man to holding.

“Let's go talk to him. See who he is.” Phil said

We enter the room he’s in

“It's not easy to do what you did. You made us all look like a bunch of mall cops. That's hurtful. The men you so easily subdued are highly-trained professionals, and in my experience, it takes someone who's received similar training to do what you did to them. Would you like to tell me where you received your training? Pakistan? Chechnya? Afghanistan? Then again, you strike me more as the soldier of fortune type. What was it, South Africa? Certain groups pay well for a good mercenary. Especially HYDRA. Who are you?” Phil asked

“Just a man,” Thor said

“One way or another, we find out what we want to know. We're good at that.” Phil said looking at me.

Phil walks out to let me ask my questions.

“I know who you are,” I said

“Your Thor, son of Odin,” I said

You can see his face light up.

“Yes. Finally, someone believes me,” Thor said

I smile

“There is only one way you can prove to me you are who you say you are,” I said

“Have you ever had a relationship with a woman from Midgard?” I asked

“What kind of question is that?” Thor said

“Answer it,” I said

“Yes…I’ve had many relationships with women from Midgard,” Thor said

“Nidaros. What was her name?” I asked

Thor takes a moment to think.

“Gyda… Gyda Eriksdotter.” Thor said

“It is you,” I said

I am so happy and angry at the same time. Thor looks up. I snap my fingers and have electricity flowing at my fingertips. I grab it with my other hand and stretch it out into an electricity rope.

“I am Runa Thorsdotter. Daughter of Gyda Eriksdotter. Daughter of Thor.” I said

“How is this possible,” Thor said

The electricity disperses.

“I was born in the year 684 AD in Nidaros, Norway. My mother told me the stories of you two. She was in love. You left her to return to Asgard. She always talked about how you would return to us, but you never did. How could you do that?” I said

“But I did return I was just too late. I saw her grave site. I didn’t know that much time had passed. I had no idea I had a daughter.” Thor said

“Why can't you lift Mjolnir?” I asked

“Father banished me to Midgard. Stripped me of my power.” Thor said

“Why?” I asked

“I was foolish and Started a war with the frost giants,” Thor said

“I’ll talk to Phil about getting you released from here. We have a lot to talk about.” I said

I walk out and find Phil.

“So, what’d he say?” Phil said

“It’s him. It’s Thor.” I said

“He was banished from Asgard for starting a war. It's why he couldn’t lift the hammer.” I said

“How do you know for sure?” Phil said said

“Because he knew my mother's name. Not anyone can just name a random person who lived 1300 years ago. It's him.” I said

Jasper walks in

“Sir, he has a visitor,” Jasper said

We walk over to see who it is. It’s the Swedish man from Jane's house

“Donald Blake?” Phil said

“Doctor Donald Blake. He’s part of our team” The man said

I look at Phil.

“You have dangerous co-workers, Dr. Selvig” Phil said

“Troubled, not dangerous. He was distraught when he found out that you'd taken all of our research. It was years of his life, gone! He got depressed, started drinking, and... well, you know the rest.” Dr. Selvig said

“Uh-huh, You mind if we take a moment to verify his identity?” Phil said

“Certainly,” Dr.selvig said

“You can understand how a man could go off like that. I mean, a big faceless organization like yours, coming in with their jackbooted thugs and stealing private property...is how he described it” Dr. Selvig said

“Doesn't explain how he managed to tear through our security” Phil said

“Steroids. He's a bit of a fitness nut.” Dr. Selvig said

We are looking at the screen that has Dr. Donald Blakes ID. It says it is falsified.

“It says here he’s an MD,” Phil said

“He is. That is, he was. He switched careers and became a physicist. He's quite brilliant, really. If you would just release him to me, I promise to keep an eye on him.” Dr. Selvig said

Phil looks to me.

“I'll go with them. I’ll make sure he doesn’t cause any trouble.” I said

“Just don’t do anything to draw attention to yourself,” Phil said

“Yeah, I know the drill,” I said

“Release dr. Blake to Dr. Selvig.” Phil said

Selvig burst into the room with Thor

“Donny! Donny! Donny! There you are. It's going to be alright now friend. I'm taking you home!” Dr. Selvig said hugging Thor.

I follow them out

“What are you doing,” Selvig said

“I'm on your side. Just keep walking.” I said

“Keep him away from the bars,” Phil yelled across the field

“I will,” Selvig said

I see Thor grab Jane’s book.

“Where are we going,” Thor asked

“Get a drink,” Selvig said

We get in the SUV and head to a bar.

“So whats your deal?” Selvig asked me

Thor looks back at me.

“I've seen your research and I think you're on to something. And I'm sorry your stuff was taken. It was just very important to me to find out what came through that wormhole.” I said

Selvig sees Thor looking at me. We arrive at the bar. We order some beers

“Seems Darcy's a terrible intern, but a talented hacker,” Selvig said

“Thank you for what you've done,” Thor said

"Don't thank me. I only did it for Jane.” Selvig said

“Are you in love with her?” Thor asked

“Of course not! Jane's like a daughter to me. Her father and I taught at University together. A good man, but he never listened.” Selvig said

“Neither did I. I had it all backward. I had it all wrong.” Thor said

“It's not a bad thing, finding out that you don't have all the answers. That's when you start asking the right questions.” Selvig said

“For the first time in my life, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do,” Thor said looking at me

Selvig looks at him

“I don't know if you're both really delusional or whatever scam you two are trying to pull, or if this is some type of elaborate practical joke, and I really don't care at this point. Thor and Thorsdotter, what do I look like, an idiot. I just care about Jane. I've seen the way she looks at you.” Selvig said to Thor

“I swear to you, I mean her no harm,” Thor said

“Good. If that's the case, then I'll buy you one more drink, and you'll leave town tonight. “ Selvig said

“Three beer steins,” Selvig said

We start drinking and it turns into a drinking contest. Thor and I down our drinks and Selvig has trouble with his. Thor looks to me

“So you really are my daughter,” Thor said and laughs.

Selvig is very drunk. Thor puts him over his shoulder and brings him back to Jane. Jane opens the door.

“Erik. Is he hurt” Jane said

“Drunk,” I said

Jane looks at me with disdain

“Put him on the bed,” Jane said

I walk into the tiny trailer. Thor puts Erik on the bed.

“I still don’t think you’re the god of thunder but you ought to be,” Erik said

“So these are your chambers?” Thor said

Jane starts to clean up her messes

"Well, it's more of a temporary living space, really. I don't usually have visitors in here. Actually, never...can we go outside.” Jane said

We walk outside and to the roof of her research building.

“I'm glad you're safe,” Jane said

“You've been very kind. I've been far less grateful than you deserve.” Thor said

“I also hit you with my car a couple times, so it kind of evens out,” Jane said

“Can I ask why you’re here? You already took all of my stuff” Jane asked me

“I have a lot invested in your research and I am sorry you were caught in the middle of this,” I said

Thor pulls out the notebook

“I don't believe it...” Jane said

“It was all I could get back. Not as much as I promised. I'm sorry.” Thor said

“No, this is good. Thank you. This means I don't have to start from scratch...” Jane said opening her notebook.

Then she looks upset.

“What's wrong?” I said

"S.H.I.E.L.D., whatever you are. They 're never going to let this research see the light of day." Jane said

“If I'm being honest. Probably not.” I said

“Why?” Jane said

“Because you're right. This research will lead to a new era. And humanity is not ready to know about that.” I said

Thor grabs the notebook and starts to draw. I sit in and look.

“Look -- your ancestors called it magic. You call it science. I come from a place where they're one and the same thing.” Thor said as he is drawing the branches of Yggdrasil

“What is it?” Jane said

“This is how my father explained it to me…Your world is one of the Nine Realms of the Cosmos, linked to each other by the branches of Yggdrasil, the Worlds Tree. Now, you see it every day, without realizing. Images glimpsed through-- what did you call it? ...this Hubble Telescope. So, Nine Realms...” Thor said

Thor continues his stories but I am the only one listening. Jane is asleep. Thor realizes.

“You have no idea how long I've waited for this moment. Sitting next to the fire hearing stories of Asgard from you…So many years.” I said with a tear streaming down my face.

“I am sorry. If I would have known I would have come for you. I was just a child then. So, no one knows of your heritage? When I returned back to Norway everything had been destroyed. There were no more stories of the gods.” Thor said

“Yea. I fled from Norway out of fear of persecution. Only a few people who know who I am, Phil being one. People don’t exactly believe in the stories like they once did. After I left Norway I had to stay hidden. S.H.I.E.L.D picked me up for false ID’s. They had records on me for over 200 years so I had to come clean. They took me in and gave me a home.” I said
I glance at my watch. 4:35 AM

“But it’s getting late I suggest we get some sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. We have to figure out what we’re going to do.” I said

Jane is sleeping on Thor’s shoulder. I go to sleep in a lawn chair.

*June 2, 2011*

We wake up and fix breakfast. Erik is very hung over. We are sitting at the table eating. Darcy keeps staring at me. I look up at her.

“Who are you?” Darcy asked

“Runa,” I said

“Ha. Runa Thorsdotter?” Erik said

“Yes,” I said

“Vǫrðr. The Caretaker. Said to follow a person from birth to death because of her eternal life. Said to appear as a light or in human form. That’s what they called Runa Thorsdotter. There are ancient tales my grandmother told me by the fireplace. Runa had the powers of Thor. She protected her village from attacks. She brought rain to drought-stricken lands. Made even the most toxic soil fertile. Who rode into battle with a berserkers rage. Fearless. You had all of England running in terror. That’s who you say you are?” Erik said

Thor looks at me and smiles. He is proud of me. I smile. I can't say yes as much as I want to. I didn’t think anyone knew the stories of me anymore.

“Only by name,” I said

“Huh,” Erik said

My phone rings. I get up from the table

“We’ve got another energy surge. Was Thor expecting anyone?” Phil said

“No,” I said

There was a knock at the door.

“Let me call you back, we've got company,” I said hanging u the phone

“Found you,” The man said

“Friends,” Thor said

“Lady Sif and The Warriors three,” I said confused

“I don’t believe it…”Erik said

“Lady Sif and the warriors three. Well, perhaps I've put on a little more muscle since I was here last.” Volsatgg said

“That was over a thousand years ago,” Erik said

“Exactly! Those lovely herring people. They worshipped us!” Volstag said

Erik looks back at me and back at them and back at me and back at them. He is putting two and two together.

“My friends, I've never been happier to see anyone. But you should not have come.” Thor said

“We're here to take you home,” Fandral said

“You know I can't. My father is dead because of me. I must remain in exile.” Thor said

“Thor... your father still lives,” Sif said

“But…Loki said” Thor said as he realizes what happened

So there seems to be some infighting for the throne. This can be my chance. If my calculations are correct I am third in line for the throne. If Odin is that ill Thor believed him to be dead I would become second in line. As for Loki, I've heard many stories of him. I've always connected more with him than the stories of Thor. At least he’s got the right idea. I can gain the trust of Thor and Odin and soon the throne could be mine. I will have my power back 1000 fold. I went from ruling a few thousand people in Norway 1000 years ago to the entire nine realms. My heart is beating so fast I feel like it might burst from my chest. I've waited 1300 years for this moment. Finally, I'll have the power I deserve.

“What are we going to do?” I asked

We hear something in the desert. We look out the door. A storm cloud and something slams into the ground.

“Was someone else coming?” Darcy asked

There are explosions

“Phil's out there,” I said

We walk into the street.

“You have to leave,” Thor said to Erik, Darcy, and Jane

“What are you going to do,” Jane asked

“I'm going to stay here,” Thor said said

“Thor is going to fight with us,” Volstagg said

“I am just a man I will only get in the way or worse get one of you killed. But you have the next best thing. My daughter, Runa.” Thor said pointing to me

“Daughter?” Sif said

“But I can help get these people to safety,” Thor said

“If you're staying then so am I,” Jane said

“We need some time,” Thor said

“You'll have it,” Hogun said

“Finally a battle,” I said

Thor is helping get everyone out of harm's way. I am walking down the street with Sif and the warriors three

“Well, let's see what you got daughter of Thor,” Sif said

I smile. My fist and eyes start to glow. Electricity flows all over my body. I punch the ground. The ground cracks and sends the destroyed stumbling a bit. But it still stands. It continues to blow things up. They throw Volstagg at the destroyer, but the destroyer swats him like a fly. I make a rope of lighting and swing it towards the destroyer and wrap it around its neck. I jump from car roof to car roof and jump on top of the destroyers back choking it. It turns his head and fires at me. I jump off in time. He continues to blast at us. Throwing us into buildings. Thor runs up to us

“You must get back to Asgard and stop Loki,” Thor said to us

“What about you,” I asked

“I have a plan,” Thor said

Thor walks up the destroyer. The destroyer backhands him and Thor goes flying.

“NO!” Sif yelled

Jane and I run up to him

“It's over your safe” Thor said

“No it's not over,” Jane said

“You are the rightful air to the throne, now,” Thor said to me

I am silent. Thor seems to die. That seemed a little bit too easy.

Then we hear something flying through the air.

“Mjolnir,” I said

“Back up,” I said

Erick grabs Jane. Lighting strikes Thor and he throws Mjolnir. Everyone is in awe.

“holy shit,” I said

Thor causes a storm and fights the destroyer. The destroyer is defeated. Thor made that look easy. Maybe I do have some stuff to learn from him before I take the throne. Thor walks up to everyone. Erik is in shock

“Is this how you normally look” Jane asked

Thor was now in full Asgardian armor

“Yes,” Thor said

“It’s a good look,” Jane said

“We must go to the Bifrost site. I will have a word with my brother.” Thor said

S.H.I.E.L.D shows up.

“Runa…” Phil said

“I had to,” I said

“I know,” Phil said

“Know this, son of Coul. You and I, we fight for the same cause -- the protection of this world. From this day forward, count me as your ally. If you return the items you have stolen from Jane Foster.” Thor said

“Not stolen. Borrowed. You'll get your equipment back. You're going to need it to continue your research” Phil said

“Would you like to see the bridge,” Thor asked Jane

“Yeah,” Jane said

Thor flies away with Jane leaving me behind, again. What else is new. I always get left behind and forgotten. We get in the SUV and head to the desert

“Phil, I'm going with them,” I said

“What? You can't” Phil said

“I have to. It is my true home. I will come back, though.” I said

“I'm sorry I doubted you. It has been an honor to be in the presence of Thor Odinson and Runa Thorsdotter.” Erik said

“Thank you,” I said

We get out of the SUV

“Heimdall open the Bifrost,” Thor yells

“He doesn’t answer,” Thor said

“Then we are stranded,” Fandral said

Thor keeps hollering for Heimdall. Finally, the Bifrost starts to open. I run with the others and Thor stands back to say goodbye to Jane. He seems to care more for Jane than his own daughter. Thor joins us and we are taken up to Asgard. The Bifrost is so beautiful. The colors. Everything I imaged and more. We make it to Asgard. Heimdall is on the ground, wounded.

“Get him to the healer leave my brother to me,” Thor said

“I'm going with you. This is as much my fight as it is yours” I said

Thor grabs me and we fly to the palace. We walk in

“Loki,” Thor said

“Thor,” Frigga said excited to see her son

“Who’s this,” She said asking about me

“My daughter, Runa, from Midgard,” Thor said

She looks surprised. Thor and Loki have a stare down.

“Why don't you tell her? How you sent the Destroyer to kill our friends? To kill me? To kill Runa?” Thor said

“What,” Frigga said

“It was forcing father's last command,” Loki said

We are surrounding him.

“You’re a talented liar brother always have been,” Thor said

“It's good to have you back brother, but if you'll excuse me I have to destroy Jotenhiem,” Loki said before blasting Thor threw the wall.

I wrap my lighting rope around his staff. Loki pulls me towards him and hits me across the room. Loki leaves the room. I get up.

“Stay here. Watch Odin.” I tell Frigga picking up a sword that was on the ground.

The sword starts to glow blue with electricity. I jump from the hole in the wall that Thor fell from and land on the rainbow bridge. I run down the bridge and meet up with Thor and Loki. The Bifrost is frozen shooting through the cosmos.

“You can't stop it. The Bifrost will build until it rips Jotunheim apart.” Loki said

Thor charges at him and he is thrown back. I stand there holding my sword.

“Why have you done this?” Thor said

“To prove to Father that I am a worthy son. That I belong on the throne. I am a true king.” Loki said

“You can't kill an entire race,” Thor said

“Why not?” Loki said

“What's you're new found love for the frost giants. You would have loved to kill them with your bare hands.” Loki said

“I've changed,” Thor said

“So have I,” Loki said hitting Thor in the face with his spear

“Now fight me,” Loki said hitting Thor

"I will not fight you brother,” Thor said’

“I'm not your brother. I never was.” Loki said

“This is madness,” Thor said

“Is it! Is it! What happened to you on earth that made you so soft. Learning that you had a daughter? Falling in love? Maybe, after all this is done, ill keep your Jane as my slave.” Loki said
I like this Loki guy. He has guts. And we think the same. I would also like to learn from him before I take the throne as well. Thor lunges at him. They are fighting. I try to figure out how to turn the Bifrost off. I hit it with my sword. Nothing. I use my lighting rope. Nothing. I look back Thor and Loki are gone.

“Runa, get out of there,” Thor yelled

I am trying to walk out. The Bifrost force is strong pulling me back. I am using all my might to walk out. I finally make it to the bridge.

“I can't shut it off. What do we do?” I asked

“Look at you, the Mighty Thor. With all your strength, what good does it do you now?” Loki said laying on the ground with Mjolnir on top of him.

“Get back,” Thor said to me.

“I have to destroy the Bifrost” Thor said

He summons Mjolnir and smashes it down on the rainbow bridge.

“What are you doing? You destroy the bridge you never return to earth again” Loki yelled

Then a huge explosion and we all go flying. I land on the bridge. Odin appears and catches Thor by the leg. Thor catches Loki.

“I could have done it, Father. For you for all of us.” Loki said

“No, it was for Loki,” Odin said

Loki realizes he lost this battle and lets go of Thor's hand and falls into the darkness of space

“NO!” Thor yelled

Odin pulls Thor up onto the rest of the bride.

“Who is this you have brought here,” Odin asked about me

“My daughter,” Thor said

“Daughter?” Odin said

“Yes from many years ago,” Thor said

Odin looks at me

“A grandchild. I never thought I would live to see this day. Your name” Odin said

“Runa…Runa Thorsdotter.” I said bowing

“Nice to finally meet you Runa. Looks like you will need some new armor” Odin said

I was still in my S.H.I.E.L.D clothes.

“Yes,” I said

Weeks later

All is well in Asgard. Odin sends for servants to get me fitted for my armor. Odin brings me to the vault room.

“I've been saving these for a while now. These swords once belonged to The Father of All Gods, my Grandfather, Buri. These swords are millions of years old. Made from energy blast from a supernova. They can cut through metal like fabric” Odin said

There lay two swords. Blue steel with gold handles.

“They're beautiful,” I said

“Yes. Well, try them out.” Odin said

I pick them up and my energy flows through them.

“Thank you, so much. I never thought this day would come, but I'm so happy that it did.” I said, smiling

“There is one thing I must ask of you,” Odin said

“Anything,” I said

“The Valkyrie perished thousands of years ago and Asgards forces have never been the same. I'm sure you’ve heard the stories about them, but nothing could ever compare to seeing them in battle. It’s a new era, and Asgard could use the Valkyrie again. So I am asking you if you would like to be the first in a new generation of Valkaryie.” Odin said

I am speechless. It takes me a moment to gather my thoughts. It seems that I have already gained Odin's trust. And now with this new found power, I am one step closer to taking my throne.

“It would be my honor, to guild the fallen to Valhalla,” I said

“Great! We need to go now, or we will miss the feast.” Odin said

There is a feast going on. They are celebrating the return of the All-Father. Odin is showing me the rest of the kingdom from the balcony. Thor walks up.

“You'll be a wise King,” Odin said

“There will never be a wiser king than you. Or a better father. I have much to learn. And much to teach.” Thor said looking at me.

“I know that now. But someday, perhaps, I will make you proud.” Thor said

“You've already made me proud,” Odin said

Odin walks away.

“Odin made me a Valkyrie,” I said

“A Valkyrie?” Thor said

“And he gave the swords of Buri,” I said

“The swords of Buri? He wouldn’t even let me touch those swords as a child.” Thor said

“Maybe it's his old age,” I said laughing

“Yea, possibly.” Thor said laughing

“Or maybe he sees something special in you. You are like the daughter he never had” Thor said

I almost feel bad now for plotting to take the throne. Maybe Odin really does care for me.

“I should go, I need to talk to Heimdall,” I said

“so do I,” Thor said

We walk down the rainbow bridge and meet with Heimdall at the end.

“It is said that you can see and hear every soul in the cosmos,” I said

“Yes. It is true.” Heimdall said

“With the Bifrost being destroyed, I can never return to earth?” I asked

“There is always a way,” Heimdall said looking off into the cosmos.
