The End is Where We Begin

But I Can't Just Sit Here And Watch It

Jessie

“Is there any other information about these guys you think we could use?” Fury asks me the next day as I’m training with Clint.

“Jarrod, the brains behind it all, his father was part of the Spetsnaz back in the day.” I inform them, causing a groan to escape both Fury and Clint’s lips. “I didn’t know about it until after I help build the program. It was one of the reasons why I left them alone.”

“I thought you didn’t know what you were doing?” Clint asks, “you just contradicted yourself.”

“I didn’t know what I was doing when I was programming it. I lied about unknowingly hiding it.” I explain, “there was no way in hell I was going to let a Russian special forces’ spawn get their hands on this program. Because as you can tell, it’s serious business.”

“If you were hiding it, how did the school know about it?” Clint asks.

“Jarrod told the school that about the project and informed them that I planned on using it against the United States. But since I come from a rich family and my godfather is Tony fucking Stark, I only got expelled. I was never brought up on military charges.”

“And we’ve been watching her since.” Fury adds, “we always knew what you were up to. We were just waiting for the perfect time to use you.”

“I’m glad my criminal skills are useful to someone.” I sarcastically say, accompanied by an eye roll, “now what else do you want to know about these guys? Because honestly I can right a very embarrassing biography on them with juicy secrets hidden between the lines.”

“Can we touch them?” Fury asks, “are we able to stop this disaster before it even begins?”

“They’re trust fund kids, you can’t touch them with a ten foot pole.” I reply, “the only way to get to them is sending someone in behind enemy lines. “ Fury and Clint share this look, a look that tells me I walked right into a situation I know I don’t want to be in. “Look, I’m not an agent and I’m not risking my neck for you guys. They’re dangerous people. If you send me in, I’m a sitting duck; I’m already on their shit list.”

“We’re not going to send you in, Lauren.” Fury assures me.

“There is a way I could get the program or at least part of the program from them.” I explain to them. “Every year, Jarrod’s family holds a masquerade party in the Hamptons. It’s invation only but I can easily get pass that. It’s all done by electronics and their system is so easy to crack. I’ve done is countless times after I got kicked out of MIT.”

“Why would you do that?” Clint questions me.

A smirk appears on my lips, “I just wanted to fuck with him. No one gets Jessica Lauren kicked out of school and gets away with it; no way in hell. And I know they didn’t update the system because right before you guys caught me, I paid them a little visit.”

“So you can get us behind enemy lines?” Fury questions me, “because I’m not about to send a bunch of the finest agents to slaughter.”

“Trust me, I can do this.” I assure him, “this’ll be a walk in the park, I promise…”
