Savior- A Tony Stark/ Ironman Love story

Lied to me

Mack and the archer traded looks when the both of them entered the car, and soon it was speeding thru the streets if the city. Unknown to her, during the ride the archer would glance every so often at Mack using the side mirror.

“Who are they?” Mack heard Tony finally breaking the silence in the car.

“We think that it’s the same group that held you captive in Afghanistan. We found out a couple months ago that they resurfaced here. Any idea what are they after?” The redhead asked.

“The Phoenix file. If it is them, then they want the energy source the powers the suit.” Tony replied.

“Well, it looks like we in the clear.” The redhead finally said.” We have orders to take you both to HQ.”

Tony looked at Mack and thought about what she had done at the ball. He did not know what he would have done if something where to happen to her. He looked at her and saw that she was shaking. Bringing her into a hug, he took a deep breath then said. “Are you okay? Don’t ever do that again. You could have been killed or worse. And where did you learn to throw a punch? I think you broke the guy’s nose.”

“That was the plan.” She said quietly allowing him to hold her until his breathing soften. Then he let go and scooted forward on the seat pointing a finger at the archer. “And you. What’s with you shooting at my girlfriend? What if she did not duck?”

“I’m fine, Tony. Really. ” Mack said softly placing a hand gently on his arm to him trying to keep him calm. She knew if Tony were to press on, he would not be happy. Not that his was now.

“She was never in danger, Stark.” He replied to Tony.

“Never in danger? You aimed at my girlfriend. You can’t be so sure of that. Tony took another deep breath to calm down. “Well, I guess introductions are in order. Mack, This is …”

“Are you sure you’re ok Mackenzie?” The archer looked over his shoulder to ask her,
interrupting Tony. Mack could see the concern in his eyes.

Damn it. She thought to herself. “I’m fine. Thank you Clint. She replied back to the archer.

“Wait a minute. You two know each other? How?” Tony asked surprised.

Mack kept silent and so did Clint. What happened in their past was just that, in the past.
Tony started to think about the events of the evening. She knew about the file, she had no problem defending herself. She somehow knew that the arrows were never met for her and timed her move to be out of the way. Was she really with SHIELD too? Tony looked back at her and Mack could see the anger come to his eyes. “So you lied to me. You said you did not know what SHIELD was. But I think you do. So what do you know about file? Oh, let me guess, you’re an agent too?” Tony said accusing.

“I don’t know anything about any file. I was just trying to buy some time. Tony, I’m not an agent and I never lied to you. Why would I? ” Mack said quietly.

“She telling you the truth, Stark.” Clint replied.

“Tony, please. Don’t….” Mack almost pleading.

So then how do you two know each other? “Let me guess, he’s your cousin. Oh no, brother? He interrupted angrily with a hint of sarcasm. He didn’t believe her.

“Tony, don’t. Please calm down.” Mack begged.

“I want the truth, Mack.” Tony snapped.

Before Mack was able to speak, she heard- “I’m her fiancée, Stark.”

“Ex- fiancée.” She corrected.

Tony did not see that coming.
