Savior- A Tony Stark/ Ironman Love story

For a genius,you're real stupid.

“Ouch.” Muttered the redheaded who was driving. Clint shot her a glance. She just shrugged her shoulders and gave him a quick look that said What?

Tony looked at Mack dumbfounded and took a little bit to register what was just said. Then he said. “I didn’t expect that.” He looked between Mack and Clint. “You and him?

“Yes.” Mack replied.

“He’s your ex?” Tony asked.

“Yes.” Mack said softly. Mack could see the hurt in Tony’s eyes.

“You should have told me.” He said looking at her, but directing it to Clint.

“I did not know…” Mack started to say.

“Don’t even go there, Mackenzie. Tony interrupted with anger to his voice.”

“Why? Does it matter?” Clint replied.

“Actually it does.” Tony replied. “What else are you hiding from me Mack? I want to know.”

“I’m not hiding anything, honest.” Mack lied. There was one other thing that she was hiding. Unknown to Tony, She was behind the real reason he was going to Japan. And if he were to find out now, he would go ballistic. This was secret that she would have to keep to herself until the time was right.

“Then why don’t I believe you.” Tony said.

“What can I do?” Mack asked.

“Start telling me the truth.” Tony seethed.

Clint sat forward watching the outside scenery and listened to the exchange between the two. Even though the woman in the back seat looked like the girl who he loved, something had changed about her. She was more refined and composed. The girl he once knew was a free spirit, outspoken, did not care what other people thought, called it as she saw it, and had no problem telling others off when they needed to hear it. She would never plead. So what happened to the girl he knew? Had what happened between them changed her that much?
Then Clint heard Mack say with venom in her voice. “You know, for a genius, you’re really stupid. I have been honest with you throughout whatever you call this relationship of ours. I’m sorry if you’re not willing to accept me telling you what is the truth. But I am who I say I am. Did I withhold things from you? Yes and I have had my reasons. But my past with Clint, has no reflection on my relationship with you. It is my past. A chapter of my life I would rather forget. Am I thankful that Clint came into my life when he did? Yes and I thank God every day he did. Because if he had not, I probably would not be here with you now. I have never lied you about anything. What would I have to gain if I did? I don’t understand why you are acting like a drama queen, Tony. This isn't like you.”

“A drama queen? Not like me? I don’t think you even know the real me. I think that once this is over, we should go our separate ways.” Tony said.

“If that what you want. Fine.” Mack replied smoothing out her dress, shifting back into the seat and looking out the window. “But you’re being an ass.”

Clint couldn't help but smiled. That was the girl he knew. The redhead couldn't help but chuckle and decided that she could get to like her.

Tony never saw it, But Clint saw the one tear escape from Mack’s eyes and it shattered his heart. He continued to watch Mack from the side window as she was looking out her window. He watched her take a deep breath then turn toward him.

“So I take it your with SHIELD then?” She asked him.

“Yes.” Clint replied.

“How long?” She asked him.

“Nick approached me just after you left.” He replied.

“How long have you been following us?” She asked.

“A month.” He said to her.

“Is there anything I need to worry about? Mack asked.

“No… It’s been taken care of.” He said.

“Good.” She replied.

The rest of the ride to the quinjet everyone was silent.
